Athleisure – what is it?
The merger of the athletic and fashion industry has given birth to the trend of athleisure that is certainly here to stay. The look can be termed as the gym to the office look since it blends versatility with comfortability in seem-less fashion. The athleisure look is perfectly suited to all kinds of daily activities like going to the office, the gym, the shops, or just hanging out casually with your friends.
While the athleisure look has a range of benefits to offer, we have taken the liberty of mentioning a few of the prominent ones in order to give you a better idea.
Comfort:-
With multiple different activities to be performed every day and having to stay in the same outfit for the whole day, it is of prime importance that your outfit is absolutely comfortable for you. Remember, the more comfortable you are, the better you are going to feel about yourself. And that’s exactly what the athleisure wear by Moonchild Yoga Wear has to offer. We understand that our valuable customers should not be forced to compromise on their sense of style in order to be comfortable. And that’s why our athleisure wear blends fashion and comfortability into one perfect combination.
Fashion:-
The days when athleisure wear was considered clumsy and out of style are long gone. With the athleisure wear that Moonchild Yoga Wear has to offer, you can stay in style and look sexy throughout the day. One of the greatest benefits of athleisure wear is that it is suitable for your busy lifestyle. One single outfit that is suitable for both for workout and a night out. Since the fine line between formal and informal has been fading in the twenty first century, athleisure wear takes advantage of that in an appropriate fashion.
Efficient:-
Last but not the least, as mentioned above, athleisure happens to be a choice of outfit for majority of people these days since it fits perfectly in your busy lifestyle and enables you to avoid making a compromise on efficiency. It is suitable for all sorts of activities that you may plan on doing in a day. You won’t have to pack any kind of an additional outfit while stepping out. In other words, you are destined to save your precious time as well as energy since you won’t have to deal with changing multiple times in a day.
In the light of the information mentioned above, it can almost be taken for granted that the athleisure wear that Moonchild Yoga Wear has to offer has a huge range of benefits to offer. With such benefits at your disposal, what else could you possibly ask for? Choose Moonchild Yoga Wear now and you would be able to see the difference by yourself. Rest assured, you won’t have to be disappointed of making the decision of choosing athleisure wear by Moonchild Yoga Wear. So what you are waiting for? Pop in and see us soon, we look forward to it!
Legs up the Wall – health benefits
Yoga offers many therapeutic benefits, and you do not need to be a yoga expert to enjoy them. Something as simple as placing your legs up a wall can be beneficial for your health. You just need to lie on your back, place your sit bones as close to the wall as possible, and rest the back of your legs on the wall. Ideally, you should hold this pose for about 10 to 15 minutes for optimum health benefits, but even 1 or 2 minutes of practicing this pose each day is enough if you have a time crunch.
TIP - Remember small steps are key to creating a new wellbeing habit.
Here are some of the ways the Legs Up the Wall posture will benefit you.
1. It Reduces The Swelling Of Your Feet
Due to poor blood circulation and the force of gravity, your legs and feet can become swollen, which is known as edema. By placing your legs up the wall, any stagnant fluid collected in your feet will get drained and your edema will reduce.
2. It Relaxes Your Leg Muscles
If you have to run around a lot, then your legs are bound to feel sore and tired. Strapping your legs, placing them on the wall, and relaxing in this posture for a few minutes is a great way to relax those tired leg muscles. By placing blocks below your hips, you will be able to drain the stress from your hips as well. You are bound to feel reinvigorated when you come out of this pose.
3. It Relaxes Your Mind
The semi-supine aspect of the pose combined with controlled breathing leads to a slowing down within your body. This exhibits itself in a lowered heart rate which elicits a relaxation response and, in turn, helps lowers anxiety, stress and insomnia.
4. It Improves Your Digestion
Since your entire body relaxes as you breathe deeply while in this pose, your body will digest the food you’ve eaten very actively. Your body will also heal and repair itself more effectively because of the overall reduction in the stress level of your body. If you practice this pose regularly, you will start feeling much healthier overall.
5. It Gives You The Benefits Of Inversion
Yoga inversions are extremely healthy for you as they improve your digestion, regulate your blood pressure, reduce the swelling of your legs, improve your heart health, and calm the mind. You need to slowly increase your strength, balance, and flexibility in order to execute more strenuous poses like a handstands. Luckily, the Leg Up the Wall pose gives you all the benefits of inversions and you do not have to put in even half the effort. It is quite safe and can be done by almost anyone.
6. It Increases Your Flow Of Lymph & Relieves Lymphatic Congestion
Inversions, like legs up the wall or shoulderstand, reverse the effect of gravity and drain lymph and used blood from the legs. If you would like to find out more about your Lymphatic system check out our earlier articles on this news page.

Studies have shown that restorative yoga poses (specifically, Legs Up the Wall) can also be beneficial for those suffering from the negative effects of:
Fibromyalgia (e.g., chronic pain)
Venous Disease (e.g., varicose veins)
Cancer
Menopause (e.g., hot flashes)
Restless Leg Syndrome
Metabolic Syndrome
HOW YOUR FEET CAN HELP YOU TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
Reflexology: Reflexology is an ancient Chinese technique that uses pressure-point massage (usually on the feet, but also on the hands and ears) to restore the entire body. The science of Reflexology has been around for thousands of years. It is based on the premise that there are reflexes in our hands, feet and ears that relate to every organ and part of our body. By stimulating these reflexes with pressure and manipulation, nerve function and blood supply may be improved, which may alleviate stress and other health problems. Reflexology is based on the belief that each part of the body is interconnected through the nervous system to the hands and feet. Stimulating specific reflex points in the feet can bring needed nutrients to poorly functioning areas of the body. This can help restore balance throughout the body. Eunice Ingham developed Reflexology in the 1930s, based on earlier theory by Dr. William Fitzgerald known as "Zone Therapy". Dr. Fitzgerald noted that specific parts of the body could have an anaesthetic effect on another area. He then later divided the body into ten equal vertical zones, ending in the fingers and toes. He concluded that pressure on one part of the zone could affect everything else within that zone.
Benefits of Reflexology include:
Improved Nerve Function- As our bodies age, our nerve endings become less sensitive in parts of our body, particularly in our extremities. That being said, reflexology has been connected with stimulating more than 7,000 different nervous endings in a single session, thereby increasing their function and reactivity. Applying pressure and massage techniques to our neural pathways can help improve functionality and flexibility of many areas around the body. Neural pathways are like muscles, so it is good to work them once in a while to keep them sharp!
High Energy Levels - By aligning the functioning of various organ and muscle systems, reflexology can increase metabolism and energy within the body. If you need a boost in energy or are always feeling sluggish, perhaps a reflexology session can help put some pep back in your step!
Increased Circulation - One of the most well-known and verified benefits of reflexology is an improvement in circulation throughout the body, which means that blood and oxygen are being cycled through the body more effectively. This means more oxygen reaches vital organ systems, thereby optimizing their functioning and further increasing the metabolism. This also results in faster healing and re-growth of damaged cells.
Relaxation - As mentioned above, reflexology has been known to open neural pathways, and this sort of free-flowing neural activity results in a more relaxed state in the body, one of reduced stress. For this reason, reflexology can flood your system with relaxation, inducing a state of calm throughout your body and mind. In this same vein, reflexology is commonly used to cure sleep disorders. Insomnia can be a very troubling condition to suffer through, but reflexology helps your body relax and get back to its normal, healthy Circadian rhythms.
Elimination of Toxins - Reflexology has been shown to improve bladder function and to reduce urinary tract issues. What this means in terms of toxicity is a more efficient system of eliminating toxins and other foreign substances, thereby protecting your body from the various diseases and health conditions that can often arise from a compromised urinary system.
Nervous System Stimulation - The open neural pathways can benefit our central nervous system in a variety of ways. not only will our brain be able to handle the inputs more effectively, thereby speeding up our cognitive powers, but our physical reactions will be faster, our memory will be boosted, and generally, our entire brain will simply work better and faster.
Reduction of Headaches - Reflexology is primarily used by many people as a method of eliminating pain. As an analgesic treatment, reflexology can reduce the severity of migraines and headaches, simply by relieving tension in the muscles that can often result in these conditions. Any headaches induced by stress can also be eliminated since stress and psychological factors often manifest in the physical symptoms of a migraine. This is actually one of the most popular applications of reflexology.
Speed Healing - The combination of increased nerve activity and circulation, as well as the more balanced functioning of the metabolism, means that cells re-grow faster and wounds are able to heal faster. Also, the pain-relieving qualities of reflexology mean that patients feel better faster, and are more willing to start physical recovery to get back into life!
Cancer Treatment - Although reflexology isn’t connected directly to curing cancer, it has been known to ease the side effects of cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy. It helps these patients get to sleep, reduce anxiety, and also reduces digestion issues that are commonly experienced.

Emotional Wellbeing - learn to take care of yourself.
Stress, anxiety and poor-quality sleep are fast becoming the biggest issues among clients. As the pace of modern life accelerates at a faster rate than ever before, it’s no surprise that stress, anxiety and fatigue are all coming to the fore. However, negative emotions don’t just rile the brain; these “bad feelings” can also manifest themselves on the body in the form of breakouts, redness, irritation, dryness and even premature ageing.
“Emotional skincare” – which harnesses ingredients that have the ability to achieve harmony between mind, body and soul – are the latest buzzwords to take the beauty industry by storm and the concept is predicted to be big.
Tracey Woodward, chief executive of skincare brand Aromatherapy Associates, believes it’s a result of consumer need. “Stress, poor sleep and anxiety are a sad reality of our time but people are aware of it and want to take control. They’re also realising that skin is simply a reflection of what’s going on inside,” she says.
Breaking bad habits
A lot can be controlled via nutrition, emotional balance, sleep and exercise, but a good skincare regime also has the power to change the way we feel, not just the way we look. As a result, emotional skincare will no doubt boom in the next few years. This idea of breaking emotionally destructive patterns and replacing them with good behaviours, such as that much sought-after “me-time”, to improve both mental wellbeing and skin health, is gaining traction.
Problem: stress and anxiety
Increasing demands in the workplace, family commitments and trying to juggle too much is not only putting a greater strain on our bodies but is also knocking our mental wellbeing out of sync.
Everyone thinks they should be coping and there’s this almost embarrassment about not being able to. You do not have to be perfect.
Slowing the pace: Treat yourself.
Rapid heartbeat, accelerated breathing and an inability to focus on any one thing are all common side effects of stress but people can hold it differently, Whatever type of treatment you decide to have, essential oils are great for helping someone destress because they’re scientifically proven to be able to change our mood – it’s commonly known that citrus and peppermint oils are good for uplifting spirits while floral and woody scents, such as rose, geranium, lavender and cedar wood, are best for grounding.
Stimulate the senses
If you are asked which oil appeals to you this is a sign of a well trained therapist who has your wellbeing at the heart of what they do. Concentrating on your breathing in a treatment is vital as breathing deeply helps to slow the heart rate and flush toxins from the brain. Deep-tissue full-body massage is a good method of treatment for destressing muscle tension but long, soft strokes from head to toe could be equally soporific. Let your therapist know what you need from your treatment. And when it comes to products, finding an outlet that caters for things for home, such as candles and body oils, and for on-the-go, such as travel-size mind balms and roller balls is fantastic as they help you continue to tackle stress whenever it arises.
Problem: poor-quality sleep
Last year, the Royal Society for Public Health reported that the average person in the UK is under-sleeping by around an hour a night, losing the equivalent of an entire night’s sleep a week – with the average sleep time for adults 6.8 hours. Understanding your lifestyle and what effects your sleep patterns is key to working some downtime into your schedule.
Bedtime rituals
Those suffering from restless nights will tend to have poor or non-existent winding down rituals, so there are a few ideas to help you wind down: switch off technology two hours before going to sleep and use relaxing products for mind and body. Lighting candles and implementing a “no phone past 9pm” rule are just a few night-time regime changes that can help improve quality of sleep, when we sleep, the time known as the “rest and digest state”, is when our bodies heal. When you look at their mobile in bed, a chemical is stimulated in the brain which wakes up the senses. It’s a bad habit! Change it for a good one.

But, thankfully they thought that was wrong and believe, like we do at Simply Stylish that you do care and it does matter.
So, we believe that you do care if your products are thinned with the addition of water, that you do care if they contain parabens, sulphates or palm oil, or other” naturally derived” additives and that is why you are going to love trying the products – browse the range from the 4th September at Simply Stylish, 22 Cross Green, Debenham, Suffolk. Introducing our NEW eco Bamboo Cup
Available in three of Pukka’s most popular designs, the bamboo cups will be stocked when we move to Debenham High Street in our new wellness boutique.
Made from the world’s most sustainable crop, pesticide-free bamboo fibre and non-GMO corn starch, the Pukka Bamboo Cup is reusable, easy to use and dishwasher friendly. Pukka Herbs teamed up with ‘E coffee’ to bring these cups to life which was no mean feat.
Pukka Herbs’ Co-Founder Tim Westwell explains;
“There is a growing interest in herbal teas and we are really enjoying being able to help bring people closer to nature through a cup of delicious organic fruits and herbs. As people become more interested in how nature can benefit our health, we feel we have a responsibility to ensure that we are also benefiting nature.
Single-use plastic is a problem for the environment and one we are keen to minimise. Our new bamboo cups are a sustainable alternative to single-use plastic cups, bringing the goodness of nature in every cup without damaging nature at the same time.”
Bamboo, we love you
Bamboo is the world’s most sustainable crop. Unlike hardwood trees (which once cut, are gone forever) bamboo when harvested, re-shoots from its extensive root system, providing an endless, renewable resource which grows up to two feet a day.
Moreover, bamboo is naturally organic and requires no fertilisers or chemicals in its propagation. It also absorbs greenhouse gases and produces 35% more oxygen than an equivalent stand of trees.
No excuse for single use
The average lifespan of a single-use cup is 13 minutes and due to their plastic content, less than 1% are recycled. Those that are labelled as recyclable can in fact only be recycled at specialised facilities, of which there are two in the UK.
In the UK alone, 10,000 cups are thrown away every two minutes. In three decades, an estimated figure of over 2 trillion single-use paper cups have ended up in landfill. That’s 2,000,000,000,000 cups.
The Pukka Bamboo Cup is reusable, recyclable, BPA (industrial chemical) and phthalate free. It is made using naturally sterile bamboo fibre combined with corn flour and a resin made of amino acids. The lid and sleeve are made from a food-grade silicone (bonded silicon and oxygen) – heat resistant to protect the hands.

If You Sit Too Much, This Is Exactly What Happens To Your Body
Modern lifestyles take their toll when it comes to a general health condition. We spend at least 8 hours of their day working, and more importantly – sitting. People spend too much time in their offices in a passive state, we spend most of our working hours without any physical activity.
On one hand, technology really helps people in everyday work. For example, when we use technology, computers, and smartphones to deal with more work in less time. On the other hand, too much sitting leads to a bad physical condition and often many problems such as a poor posture, back pain or serious diseases such as obesity, heart problems, and diabetes.
If you’ve recognized yourself in a previous description, read and think about the negative impacts on your health condition:

Issues With Our Back
The most unpleasant outcome of the bad body posture is connected with back problems – back pains, spine problems or even disk damage. Moving allows soft disks to expand but also to contract, which actually let blood and useful nutrients in. Sitting makes these disks uneven and loose, eventually causing collagen to load around places such as tendons and ligaments as well.
People who spend too much time at the computer have more chances to have problems with herniated disks.
Muscle Atrophy
Sitting is also bad for your spine. If you don’t use your ab muscles enough it may ultimately result in spine deformity. Also, sitting affects your hips and your back and may have a very bad influence on your body balance. The gluteus muscles (our butt) becomes soft with too much sitting, and they can atrophy which can take away our strength to do strenuous or long walks.
Disorders With Legs
Clearly, lack of moving influences your leg circulation and may cause numerous problems such as – vein problems, dangerous blood clots, swollen ankles, etc.
Finally, sitting weakens your bones, and also makes them less dense. By regular activity, especially swimming, running and walking, your bones become stronger and thicker. That’s why elderly people suffer from osteoporosis.
An interesting and morbid bit of research shows that people who watch TV more than one hour a day in a sedentary position, have about a 61% chance of premature death.
Neck, Shoulder, And Brain Complications
Moving keeps our brain in shape. This way more oxygen and blood flow to and through our brain. If we don’t move enough, we can’t think sharply because without moving, oxygen and blood flow slower to the brain.
Also, if we spend too many hours working at the computer, it’s bad for our neck and body posture. Poor body posture can damage shoulder and back muscles because of the overextension.
Organ Decline
Lack of moving and physical activity can lead to many serious cardiovascular diseases. As an outcome of a constant inactivity, our body overproduces insulin which gives your body a slow blood flow. This way, your body is not able to fight the cells responsible for causing cancer and other afflictions.
In addition, overproduction of insulin causes obesity as well as diabetes.
So how can we stop inactivity? Don’t just sit there!
If you really have to sit too long for some reason, then do it properly. This means you have to avoid leaning over or being in a slouched position. Also, an exercise ball can help you to work out your ab muscles. At the same time, your body will be standing up straight. A backless seat may help too.
Experts say we should get up every 30 or so minutes in order to stretch and walk. This makes our blood flow around our body and helps our brain, as well as muscles, work optimally.
Finally, yoga & massage are a great thing. It relaxes your mind and muscles and works as a general anti-stress exercise or muscle relaxant http://www.simplystylishsuffolk.co.uk/treatments/

The evening may call for something a little sassier. Printed silk wrap dresses will ensure you keep it chic and fun (plus they’re super light to pack so you can get away with squeezing in a couple!). With so many amazing embroidered shirts around right now from the likes of Zara I would definitely suggest styling a cute two-piece look with a wide legged boho silk trouser.
Any fashion blogger will be encouraging you to have an epic pair of espadrilles and the tip top approved accessory this season is the basket bag. Check out H&M.
Rosehip & Royalty- Why the Duchess of Cambridge swears by it
By Bridget March
Word has it that the Duchess of Cambridge is wedded to her natural rosehip oil – and she's in good company. Like Miranda Kerr and Gwyneth Paltrow (those famous faces of similar complexion perfection), Kate Middleton apparently loves it & so do we, known here at Simply Stylish as the magic product!http://www.simplystylishsuffolk.co.uk/product-shop/germaine-de-capuccini/
Us Weekly reported that "Kate continues to use rosehip oil in her daily skincare regiment," a source close to the Duchess said. "She loves the effect is has on her skin. Her mother, Carole Middleton is also a fan."

It's super moisturising
First up, it's a superior moisturiser for the skin (and hair, if you want to make it multipurpose). Containing 80% essential fatty acids (omegas 6 and 9), it instantly quenches dehydrated skin leaving it soft and smooth to touch. The visual effect is restored radiance, granting that Gwyneth-like glow in a flash.
It fights the ageing process
Rosehip seeds are potent antioxidants, which we know keep us young by combating free radical damage (our skin's worst enemy). Rosehip seed oil is also rich in vitamin A, the number one vit for anti-ageing. Why? It improves the skin's moisture levels, reduces wrinkles and may help to promote the production of skin-building compounds. Pow.
It protects against pollution
Pollutants (from car fumes to UV rays – we're surrounded in them) cause free radicals to become more harmful to our skin. Given that rosehip oil is rich in antioxidants it helps to combat oxidative damage, and can reinforce your skin's barrier, preventing future damage, too.
Apply it to your face at night as the last step in your skincare routine either on top of, or instead of, your moisturiser. Smooth any excess over the back of your hands and on your cuticles.

Beat the Heat with Pukka Herbs advice
Summer wellbeing: an Ayurvedic guide
When trying to align ourselves with the changing seasons, we need to bear in mind the great Ayurvedic principle of ‘like increasing like’. To help keep you balanced, you need a diet and lifestyle that is opposite to the quality of the season.

In summer, the fire element is higher with more warmth, dryness and lightness. The increase in environmental heat can influence the onset of inflammatory symptoms such as hay-fever, prickly heat and summer fevers. Similarly, our emotions can also become naturally more ‘heated’ and we may experience a tendency to become slightly more ‘hot under the collar’ in stressful or unexpected situations. So, naturally, summer is a time of calming and reducing heat.

Here are some top tips for a summer routine that will leave you feeling cool, calm and collected during the summer:
Wake with the rising morning sun, take advantage of our natural instinct to awaken earlier
Brush your teeth with cooling toothpastes such as neem or peppermint to clear heat
Have a light massage with cooling oils such as almond or coconut to release some of the pent-up heat accumulated overnight
For a blissful start to your day, walk with bare feet on a cool dewy lawn
Start a daily yoga or meditation practice that will calm the body and mind, cooling your internal temperature. Heat often builds in the digestive tract during the summer months, so try and incorporate abdominal stretches and twists. After your yoga practice or meditation, you can place a drop of cooling calming essential oil between the eyebrows, such as rose oil
Fill your diet with cooling foods that are sweet, bitter and astringent that are light and easy to digest. Avoid dark meats such as beef, lamb and pork; pungent flavours such as those from citrus fruits and the garlic and onion family; salt and sour flavours and heavy dairy products
As the weather hots up, the emotions can take a similar route. You might find yourself becoming more ‘hot under the collar’ than usual. A good trick is to take a mouthful of cool water and hold it in your mouth for 10 seconds before you speak
Before bed, try rubbing the soles of your feet with a cooling oil such as almond, coconut or castor oil to draw the heat down and out of the body
For a bit of extra indulgence, wash your face in rosewater and fill your room with the scent of relaxing cooling scents such as rose and jasmine, Pukka Herbs Organic Rosewater available here http://www.simplystylishsuffolk.co.uk/pukka-herb-supplements/
Try and get to bed before 11pm before the levels of the fire dosha ‘pitta’ begin to peak
HOW TO EFFECTIVELY TREAT CELLULITE
The term cellulite in the Oxford Dictionary is listed as “persistent subcutaneous fat causing dimpling of the skin, especially on women’s hips and thighs.”
Yes thanks dictionary we know where it is but you forgot to mention that we can also get it on our derrières and we know exactly what it looks like as we live with it every day. What we really need to know is why do we get it and most importantly how do we treat it.
A FEW FACTS ABOUT CELLULITE WORTH KNOWING
Cellulite is a very common problem that affects 90 percent of women and 10 percent of men.
More women are affected by cellulite due to the structure of their collagen fibers. (Women’s sit in vertical lines as opposed to men’s which are criss cross.)
The ‘orange peel look” that appears underneath the skin occurs when fat and fluid build up in pockets between the collagen fibers.
Cellulite is not a necessarily a sign of being overweight. Toned, healthy people are often affected.
Genetics have a lot to do with cellulite, therefore it’s easier for some to reduce cellulite than others.
There are three main types of cellulite, in order to see results you need to address all three.
THE SCIENCE BEHIND CELLULITE
Before we get to treating the problem, it’s important to understand cellulite to its full extent. Cellulite is not just about fat. It is a combination of trapped fat cells, weakened collagen fiber and fluid retention. These are the three main types:

ADIPOSE CELLULITE
Caused by the increase in size and number of fat cells.
Adipocytes (fat cells) make up adipose tissue, the area where energy is stored as fat. We need this fat to say healthy. Depending on the stimuli that the adipocytes receive, they will multiply and store more fat or decrease and store less fat.
Cellulite occurs when the adipocytes store more fat then the body needs, they then get trapped inside pockets between the collagen fibres. This imbalance is usually due to diet: eating large amounts of refined sugars, processed foods; regularly eating more calories than you burn or drinking lots of alcohol.
FIBROUS CELLULITE
Caused by structural changes and weakening of the collagen fibers.
When collagen fibers beneath the skin become weak or lose their elasticity, underlying fat deposits start to push through the layers of fibers causing bumps under the skin. Collagen fibers and connective tissue can become weak for a number of reasons such as lack of muscle tone, ageing, sun damage, excess fat, hormones and poor circulation.
INFILTRATED CELLULITE
Caused by poor circulation & liquid retention.
The walls of the blood vessels are formed by an elastic tissue that allows a fluid circulation of the blood. When these walls lose elasticity, the speed of the blood circulation is reduced. Instead of being excreted, excess fluids and waste products get pushed towards the adipocyte tissue where they attach to the fat cells causing cellulite and swelling. The transportation of oxygen and nutrients is also reduced causing the metabolism to slow down.
The weakening of the vascular walls does naturally occur with age but can also be affected by a number of lifestyle choices such as lack of regular exercise, smoking, stress, sitting for long periods of time or eating foods high in salt.
EFFECTIVELY TREATING CELLULITE
Unfortunately, there’s no quick fix for treating cellulite long term. Achieving serious improvements will take time, consistency and a combination of lifestyle adjustments. If you eliminate the cellulite but do not deal with the bad circulation it will appear again. Here’s a few solutions:
ANTI-CELLULITE CREAMS: CAN TARGET ALL THREE TYPES OF CELLULITE
Applying a good anti-cellulite cream twice a day (in conjunction with other solutions) will help to reduce cellulite. Look for products that target at least two types of cellulite and that work to prevent it as well as reduce it. Look for some of these ingredients: Astragalus Extract is effective at preventing the formation of new fat cells; Centella Asiatica helps to restore the skin’s elastic quality; Ginkgo Biloba helps to increase blood circulation; Lemon Extract help to protect the walls of the blood vessels to prevent swelling. We recommend Germaine de Capuccini’s Slim Precision Anti-cellulite Emulsion available instore at Simply Stylish or online http://www.simplystylishsuffolk.co.uk/product-shop/germaine-de-capuccini/
Tip: Apply your cream after exercise for better results – the product will absorb more effectively as your blood circulation is stimulated.
BRISK WALKING: TARGETS INFILTRATED CELLULITE
Cellulite forms in areas with the least circulation so simple exercises such as brisk walking, swimming and running should be done daily to help increase blood circulation in the whole body. As little as 10 minutes a day can make a positive difference.
WEIGHT TRAINING: TARGETS FIBROUS CELLULITE
Weight training is a great way to strengthen the connective fibers and tone the muscles. It allows you to target certain areas and work the muscles much more intensely than cardio training can. It also burns fat a lot excess of fat too.
SUPPLEMENTS: CAN TARGET ALL THREE TYPES OF CELLULITE
Carefully chosen supplements are a good way to target cellulite from inside by helping to degrade fat cells, drain waste and strengthen fibrous tissue. Look for ingredients that help with drainage such as Horsetail and ingredients containing caffeine to help burn fat. Be sure to avoid anything with sugar or nasty additives.
HERBAL TEAS: CAN INCREASE DETOXIFICATION
Removal of toxins/waste products from our bodies helps reduce the appearance of cellulite so as ever drink your water the best way to hydrate and flush out your system but support with the consumption of detox or cleanse herbal teas find out more http://www.simplystylishsuffolk.co.uk/pukka-herb-supplements/
MASSAGE: CAN TARGET ALL THREE TYPES OF CELLULITE
A course of professional massage treatments can have extremely positive short term effects on cellulite. For best results, look for treatments that combine drainage massage techniques to improve blood circulation combined with products that help to rebuild the strengthen the connective tissue and reduce fat cells (targeting all 3 types of cellulite.) Find out more about Simply Stylish massage http://www.simplystylishsuffolk.co.uk/treatments/
DIET: TARGETS ADIPOSE CELLULITE
Avoid high amounts of refined sugar, processed foods, while carbohydrates and foods that contain sweeteners, additives and chemicals. These all convert to sugar within the body and get stored easily consequently causing the fat tissue to expand. Drinking water and eating foods with a high water content will also keep your connective tissue strong and supple.to edit it.

Style Hotline - Q3
I enjoy a sporty look but how can I carry it off without looking like I am just off to the gym?
Athleisure is the new fashion savvy word for the tracksuit & trainer gang. It is about looking sporty and casual and most definitely is not your going to the gym look – we think this may be the style you are looking for. So should you wear yoga pants to a restaurant or the airport? Is it weird to put your trainers on with your maxi dress or dare to be really sporty and wear your tracksuit to go clubbing at night? It’s all up for debate, and with more and more designers embracing sportswear, it’s a look we are going to see more and more of.
Simply Stylish favor ballet-inspired looks with headbands, unitards, and cardigans, or try pair of wide-leg jeans and pretty flats with and sporty logo sweatshirt. Shorts and sneakers get dressed up with a brightly coloured sweater and embellished glasses, while racer onesies turn chic with white patent leather boots and a printed mini backpack. Athleisure is a French girls sporty style and has a certain je ne sais quoi. It’s becoming a British look so embrace it and enjoy the comfort and fun of sporty casual wear.

WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT? UVA, UVB, SPF & GOLDEN CARESSE
UV radiation is part of the electromagnetic (light) spectrum that reaches the earth from the sun. It has wavelengths shorter than visible light, making it invisible to the naked eye. These wavelengths are classified as UVA, UVB, or UVC.
Both UVA and UVB, however, penetrate the atmosphere and play an important role in conditions such as premature skin aging, eye damage (including cataracts), and skin cancers. They also suppress the immune system, reducing your ability to fight off these and other maladies.
UVA
Most of us are exposed to large amounts of UVA throughout our lifetime. UVA rays account for up to 95 percent of the UV radiation reaching the Earth's surface. Although they are less intense than UVB, UVA rays are 30 to 50 times more prevalent. They are present with relatively equal intensity during all daylight hours throughout the year, and can penetrate clouds and glass. UVA, which penetrates the skin more deeply than UVB, has long been known to play a major part in skin aging and wrinkling (photoaging), but until recently scientists believed it did not cause significant damage in areas of the epidermis (outermost skin layer) where most skin cancers occur. Studies over the past two decades, however, show that UVA damages skin cells called keratinocytes in the basal layer of the epidermis, where most skin cancers occur. (Basal and squamous cells are types of keratinocytes.) UVA contributes to and may even initiate the development of skin cancers. UVA is the dominant tanning ray, and we now know that tanning, whether outdoors or in a salon, causes cumulative damage over time. A tan results from injury to the skin's DNA; the skin darkens in an imperfect attempt to prevent further DNA damage. These imperfections, or mutations, can lead to skin cancer.
UVB the chief cause of skin reddening and sunburn, tends to damage the skin's more superficial epidermal layers. It plays a key role in the development of skin cancer and a contributory role in tanning and photoaging. Its intensity varies by season, location, and time of day. UVB rays can burn and damage your skin year-round, especially at high altitudes and on reflective surfaces such as snow or ice, which bounce back up to 80 percent of the rays so that they hit the skin twice. UVB rays do not significantly penetrate glass.

Since the advent of modern sunscreens, a sunscreen's efficacy has been measured by its sun protection factor, or SPF.
SPF is not an amount of protection per se. Rather, it indicates how long it will take for UVB rays to redden skin when using a sunscreen, compared to how long skin would take to redden without the product. For instance, someone using a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 will take 15 times longer to redden than without the sunscreen. An SPF 15 sunscreen screens 93 percent of the sun's UVB rays; SPF 30 protects against 97 percent; and SPF 50, 98 percent. The Skin Cancer Foundation maintains that SPFs of 15 or higher are necessary for adequate protection.

In summary UVA rays penetrate deep into the dermis, the skin's thickest layer. Unprotected exposure can lead to premature skin aging and wrinkling (photoaging), and suppression of the immune system. UVB rays will usually burn the superficial layers of your skin.

“Ice wins for acute pain, inflammation and swelling. Heat perpetuates the cycle of inflammation and can be harmful. Moist heat helps to loosen injured muscles before activity or stretching. Icing afterward can minimize pain.” Sports Health physical therapist Carol Ferkovic Mack, DPT, SCS, CSCS:
Simply Stylish Hot/Cold Gel Pack - £4.99 http://www.simplystylishsuffolk.co.uk/product-shop/
Microwave for 30 seconds or place it in the freezer for 2 hours.
Heat increases blood flow restoring movement to injured tissue.
Cold causes vasoconstriction the narrowing of blood vessels, use for acute pain, inflammation & swelling.
Perfect to use on:
HOT - Aching muscles from over-exertion
HOT - Joint stiffness
HOT - Whiplash
HOT - Aching pains from fibromyalgia/arthritis and other chronic pain conditions.
HOT - Cramping or spasm pains such as period pains.
HOT & COLD - Osteoarthritis of the knee to improve muscle strength and range of movement.
COLD – Gout reduces pain.
COLD - Healing of stitches and tears following vaginal delivery of a baby.
COLD - Reduces swelling of surgical wounds.

When should you apply heat to an injury?
Heat can increase blood flow and help restore movement to injured tissue. Warmth can also reduce joint stiffness, pain, and muscle spasms. As with cold packs, heat packs have a role in easing pain from both acute and chronic injuries, such as sprains, strains, muscle spasms, whiplash, and arthritis.

How does ice help reduce swelling?
Cold causes vasoconstriction ( narrowing ) of the small blood vessels supplying blood to the injured area which reduces the amount of fluid that leaks from damaged vessels into the injury and the amount of swelling. Cold application is most effective when it is used before there is swelling - to prevent it.

Why does heat help with pain?
This process increases the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the muscles, helping to heal the damaged tissue. Heat stimulates the sensory receptors in the skin, which means that applying heat to the lower back will decrease transmissions of painsignals to the brain and partially relieve the discomfort.

What are hot and cold packs used for?
Heat can increase blood flow and help restore movement to injured tissue. Warmth can also reduce joint stiffness, pain, and muscle spasms. Ice reduces inflammation. A combination of hot & cold can be beneficial. Simply Stylish gel packs are designed to mould to any injury or area of pain and also great in pockets to keep hands warm or iced to place on foreheads when suffering with a temperature - perfect for children.
Style Hotline – Q2
Should I be buying a jumpsuit this season?
Most definitely…...
Last week, Ascot announced that jumpsuits had become part of its official dress code, so now the perfectly useful, utilitarian jumpsuit has been jeopardised it's all about wearing it with high heels, a blow-dry and a manicure, a jumpsuit this season most definitely feels a bit like Ladies Day.
“WHETHER it's a disco-ready metallic Missoni number or a rhinestone-studded Saint Laurent tuxedo style, the jumpsuit has supplanted the cocktail dress as the summer occasion outfit of choice. Look for details such as a waist-cinching belt or built-in corset to offset wide legged-trousers, and keep jewellery to a minimum: this is a look that speaks for itself”- VOGUE.
As summer wedding season looms, prepare for jumpsuit apotheosis. We guarantee it will be nigh on impossible to attend nuptials without spotting a finely turned out attendee in a figure-fitting jumpsuit.
However, many of us will still want to wear the utility style jumpsuit with a battered pair of converse which is excellent and still a really hot, relaxed trend of 2017.
Get your jumpsuit on this season with Mango, Yves St Laurent, Matchesfashion, Valentino, Marks & Spencer.

Style Hotline - Q1

So do I need to take out a second mortgage for shoes and what should I be wearing this season?
No, the high street has some mad styles that the fashion editors are already putting their names on. Office, LK Bennet, Red Herring & the bang on trend Primark have the latest looks.
You wear whatever you want this season, what you like, what you adore and what want to be seen in! If your shoes are not remarked upon by strangers get wilder and more adventurous.
The trends out there on the high street are kitten heels inspired by our iconic beauty Audrey Hepburn and the power of Balenciaga, Vetement and Dior supporting this look means we are obessed and the 2nd biggest trend (again an Audrey classic) is the espadrille.
You can go as nutty as you like with both looks by going colourful, bright pinks or yellow a key colour trend and are out there waiting for you! Or slightly more classic, add a metallic pair – great as they reflect colour that you are wearing and go with everything.

Narcissism. Children. Emotional Intelligence.

The latest research indicates that narcissism is on the rise in modern culture due to the rise of reality television, social media, and the ever-increasing focus on achievement—even in preschool and elementary school, which is coupled with the general reduction of children’s freedom to play with their peers in an unstructured way.
Simply stated, narcissism is an inflated view of the self, combined with relative indifference to others. There are two distinct categories of pathological narcissism: exhibitionist and closet. Both stem from an inability to adequately develop an age-appropriate self, due to problems with the quality of nurturing provided during their childhood where the caregiver may have had strong narcissitic tendancies or the child has experienced abandoment on some level. The narcissistic mother idealizes her son and puts him up on a pedestal. By the time he is a teen, she resents her son for not pleasing her as he used to, which in turn creates resentment in him. His defense mechanism is to keep building up his ego as a facade that covers deep insecurity and angst. Yet, all the blame cannot go solely to the mother. Narcissistic fathers, too, are more likely to foster narcissistic children.
The closet narcissist is more likely to have a deflated, inadequate self-perception and also a palpable awareness of the emptiness within. The exhibitionist type, on the other hand, maintains an inflated, grandiose self-perception that is out of touch with reality. Without investigation or reflection, the exhibitionist type assumes that others are just like him. The closet narcissist desires constant approval from others, while the exhibitionist constantly seeks admiration and ego-stroking.

The eight deadly sins of narcissism:
1. Shamelessness: inability to process shame.
2. Magical thinking: seeing oneself as perfect.
3. Arrogance: diminishing and degrading others with self-importance.
4. Envy: coveting others’ images, possessions, or achievements.
5. Entitlement (a.k.a. privilege): feeling and acting extra special and better than everyone else.
6. Exploitation: using others without regard for their feelings or interests.
7. Lack of boundaries: no boundary between self and other.
8. Lying: seeing everything as their truth, lying is just a means to an end.

At the community level, we need to work to reverse the alarming trend of narcissism in society by promoting altruism in children and teens. This can be accomplished by incorporating the explicit teaching of emotional intelligence

What exactly is emotional intelligence?
According to Psychology Today, it’s:
“The ability to accurately identify your own emotions, as well as those of others.
The ability to utilise emotions and apply them to tasks, like thinking and problem-solving.
The ability to manage emotions, including controlling your own, as well as the ability to cheer up or calm down another person.”
However, in order to understand emotional intelligence we need to embrace the five components below:
1) Self-Awareness.
People who are self-aware understand their emotions, and as such don’t allow themselves to let their feelings get out of control. They reflect on themselves regularly, recognizing what they are good at—and what they aren’t. They know when to maximize their strengths, and how to manage their weaknesses so these don’t hold them back. They appreciate that there is nothing called perfection, admit their vulnerability and take responsibility for their mistakes as much as their successes.
2) Self-Regulation.
Self-regulation is managing and controlling our emotions, moods and reactions. Emotionally intelligent people take a few deep breaths to think before reacting, and thus respond much better to challenging situations.
They don’t allow anger, jealousy or some other form of fear to affect their decisions. They are conscious of their reactions, knowing why they reacted in a certain manner. They are comfortable saying no, and lead well-balanced lives. They usually eat well, get plenty of sleep and have many interests outside their work or relationships.
3) Motivation.
This is the ability to push ourselves toward our goals, harnessing our emotions to take action, commit and follow through with them.
Self-discipline and willpower are important attributes of an emotionally intelligent person’s character, as they are willing to forgo instant gratification for long-term results. They are highly productive, effective and positive about life, and don’t allow people or situations to bring them down.
4) Empathy.
An emotionally intelligent person not only listens to others, but is also able to discern and understand their feelings to such an extent that they put themselves in the other’s shoes. They don’t stereotype and judge, but rather are willing to accept all kinds of opinions and viewpoints. They are open, honest and have a strong ability to manage relationships.
Mother Theresa, Gandhi and the Dalai Lama are well-known symbols of empathy, but there are many around us who often surprise us with how genuine and empathetic they are. They make us feel safe, heard and important.
5) Social Skills.
These are the team players who park their egos on the side and focus on developing others instead. They are communicators, manage disputes and build and maintain relationships. They adapt quickly to situations, aren’t afraid of change and are curious about life and what it has to offer.

We can learn and cultivate emotional intelligence in our lives. We are usually stronger with one aspect than the others, but we can develop all five so that we become better leaders in our lives, whether at our workplace, our home or elsewhere.
These attributes can also help guide us in any circumstances we find ourselves, whether we are bankers, business owners, mothers, fathers, friends, partners, artists or people living simple lives traversing the joys and vicissitudes of life.
It’s not something that is easy to accomplish within a few months but rather it’s a journey over many years. It’s a roadmap of “How” to live our lives, rather than the “Why” or “What” of life. Teach our children now, be the best role models possible and hopefully we can "turn around" the Narcissism trend in our culture.

What is the meaning of MFR?
Myofascial Release (MFR) is a very effective hands-on interactive technique that provides stretching, compression and sustained pressure into restricted areas of fascia (connective tissue) in the body to eliminate pain and restore motion.

What is fascia massage?
Myofascial release (or MFR) is an alternative medicine therapy that claims to treat skeletal muscle immobility and pain by relaxing contracted muscles, improving blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulating the stretch reflex in muscles.

What is myofascial tissue?
Myofascial tissue is a type of thin, strong, fibrous connective tissue that extends throughout your body to provide support and protection to your muscles and bones.

What is fascia release?
Myofascial release is a manipulative treatment that attempts to release tension in the fascia due to trauma, posture, or inflammation. Connective tissues called fascia surround the muscles, bones, nerves, and organs of the body.

What causes myofascial pain syndrome?
Sensitive areas of tight muscle fibers can form in your muscles after injuries or overuse. These sensitive areas are called trigger points. A trigger point in a muscle can cause strain and pain throughout the muscle. When this pain persists and worsens, doctors call it myofascial pain syndrome.

What is the fascia of the body?
A fascia (/ˈfæʃə/, /ˈfæʃiə/; plural fasciae /ˈfæʃᵻ.i/; adjective fascial; from Latin: "band") is a band or sheet of connective tissue, primarily collagen, beneath the skin that attaches, stabilizes, encloses, and separates muscles and other internal organs.

Why have fascial release?
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.

The Muscle of the Soul

How To Relieve Overlooked Stress From Your ‘Muscle of the Soul’ (Psoas Muscle)
Not many people have heard of the Psoas Muscle, but it’s actually one of the most important muscles in your body. The Psoas Muscle exists on the side of your vertebral column, extending down to the edge of your pelvis. It’s often referred to as the muscle of the soul because of the responsibility it has in our bodies. Essentially, it connects our upper bodies to our lower bodies, our inside to our outside, and our back to our front.
If you spend the majority of your time sitting, like most of us do in an office setting, you could be locking up your hips without even knowing it. Locked hips contributes to increased feelings of stress and fear that normally wouldn’t be felt otherwise. This clouds our ability to think and function like we’re supposed to.
When we spend all day sitting or working, not only do we cause ourselves more anxiety, but we also don’t have a chance to release any of the buildup.

Guess where this buildup of stress and anxiety gets stored? In our Psoas Muscles.
It’s the largest muscle in the body, and its size is comparable to the amount of responsibility it has. For example, it’s largely tied to our flight or fight responses, which is responsible for the release of adrenaline during a situation where we stand our ground, or hightail it out of there. When these types of responses occur, they produce stress hormones in the body that don’t go away if we don’t use them; they just get stored in the body. This can lead to insomnia, anxiety, depression, and a weakened immune system.
There’s no one method that can help you get rid of the buildup that’s stored in your Psoas, but there are several methods you can use that will get rid of it through a gradual process. Two of the best ways to get rid of this stress buildup is through yoga and massage.

Yoga will help you engage specific parts of the body at specific times. Many people think it’s about how stretchy you can be, but that means nothing. Yoga is about healing the body and focusing on yourself. If you do the poses the way you’re supposed to do them, you’re getting 100 percent of the benefits despite how inflexible you may be. Not only that, but you can learn these poses on your own and do them at home. Even just taking ten minutes a day to stretch the muscle of the soul will have a positive impact on your health and emotional well-being. You’ll be able to relax and move more freely, and you’ll feel your anxiety start to fade away over time.

A good massage, prescriptive to your needs will ensure the Psoas muscle is lengthened and stretched, it will help relieve a build up of tension in the hips, along the spine and through the glute muscles. Massage alleviates and can eliminate, or preventing lower back and/or pelvic pain and improve posture. It's also fairly common to find trigger points effecting other areas in this muscle since it is a hard worker that tends to be neglected. Massage is also beneficial to ALL the muscles simply because it flushes out lactic acid and improves circulation http://www.simplystylishsuffolk.co.uk/treatments/
Spring wellbeing guide: the Ayurvedic perspective by Pukka Herbs
10th April 2017
As the days become gradually brighter and warmer, we can finally say that spring might just be on its way. This guide explores how to put the ‘spring’ back in your step and get ready for the rejuvenating months ahead.
Each season brings some common and predictable patterns that can affect your health. For example, as we move from winter into spring we are more likely to see frequent instances of coughs, colds and hay fever. Understanding why these patterns occur can help us to develop strategies against these seasonal tendencies and therefore maintain maximum wellbeing.
Why does the climate within which we live affect our health?
The qualities of cold, hot, dryness and damp affect the taste of the air, food and water; together with our general mood and energy. For example, different climate zones will have their own patterns: Alaska is cold and dry, the Amazon hot and damp. As our environment is constantly changing, we need to keep our health in tune by adapting our lifestyle accordingly. The reason why we are affected by these changes is that they affect our internal environment and our body changes its physiological mechanism to compensate.
The best way to understand seasonal patterns is to observe the world around you. Take a look at your immediate environment: What is it like today? Is it cold, hot, dry or damp?
Staying healthy through the changing seasons means staying one step ahead. We can do this by anticipating how the changing environment will affect us and making provision for this before that change occurs.

So, what do we need to do as we approach spring?
First, we need to bear in mind the Ayurvedic principle of ‘like increases like’. To help keep you balanced, you need a diet and lifestyle that is opposite to the quality of the season. For spring this means we need to cleanse.
Spring is a time of growth and life, with increased warmth and moisture from the thawing of winter. So, because of the cold and wet qualities of winter, together with our heavier diets, our body is naturally more congested and damp, by the time spring arrives.
Just as there are spring floods with rivers overflowing, there are internal floods. The increased heat of spring melts the congested damp that has accumulated, causing the onset of spring colds and hay fever characterised by high levels of mucus.
The 'body-vase'
One analogy Ayurveda uses is that of your body being a beautiful vase. Imagine that all your constitutional qualities are contained in a vase. If the balance between in-and-out is equal then all is well, but if the input is too high or the output of wastes too slow then an accumulation can brim over the lip of your ‘body-vase’ and flood your system.
We have all felt this when we get a cold, runny nose, muzzy head, aching limbs, loss of appetite and generally feel out-of-sorts. This is a wonderful analogy for what happens during the interface of winter and spring.
If you are a regular sufferer of hay fever or are currently battling a stubborn head cold, then a bit of a ‘spring clean’ might be just what you need to clear the accumulation.
Why cleanse in spring?
The best times of year to undergo a cleanse is at the change of the seasons, often around the spring and autumn equinox. If we choose to cleanse in the spring, we are helping the body process the accumulated damp from the winter months. Helping the body carry out this natural process decreases the likelihood of coming down with a seasonal cold or the inevitable period of hay fever.
Try these daily spring rituals
From an Ayurvedic point of view, the dosha or constitution known as ‘kapha’ is increased during the early stages of spring. But, even if you don’t know you’re true doshic balance, following these tips will help recharge the body for the spring months:

¥ Waking early, before 7am, and making the most of spring vitality and energy.
¥ Make your first drink of the day hot and spicy to stimulate the digestion and cut through any damp. Try Pukka Three Ginger, Revitalise or Lemon, Ginger and Manuka Honey teas. http://www.simplystylishsuffolk.co.uk/pukka-herb-supplements/
¥ Daily self-massage to invigorate the blood followed by a hot shower. Vigorous skin rubbing with a loofa also encourages the movement of fluids around the body, supporting detoxification. If you fancy treating yourself, visit a sauna to dry out all that accumulated winter moisture.http://www.simplystylishsuffolk.co.uk/treatments/
¥ Try a daily yoga posture or set that is more dynamic, expansive and stimulating such as the sun salutations.
¥ Keep all meals warm, light and easy to digest with an emphasis on bitter, pungent and astringent foods that will help clear excess moisture. Also try Pukka After Dinner, Turmeric Gold or Three Fennel teas.http://www.simplystylishsuffolk.co.uk/pukka-herb-supplements/
¥ Avoid concentrated sweet, sour and salty flavours which are heavy and increase accumulations. Avoid chilled and refrigerated foods which are brimming with cold and excess moisture.
¥ Support your body’s natural efforts to find balance by supporting seasonal cleansing and detoxification practices to clear the excess congestion. This could involve incorporating a week’s detox diet into your spring preparations.

Inhaling Himalayan Pink Salt

You’ve probably heard about the many health benefits of pink Himalayan salt. It contains over 84 minerals and trace elements. You can use it as a healthier option instead of processed salt, you can use it to create body scrubs and bath soaks, and you can also buy pink Himalayan salt lamps. There’s one use for the salt that might be new to you: inhaling it through a salt inhaler to reap its many health benefits!
What Is A Salt Inhaler?
Salt inhalers contain small Himalayan salt rocks that sit at the bottom of the inhaler. When you inhale, the natural moisture in the air helps absorb the salt particles into your lungs. If you suffer from conditions such as asthma, allergies, colds or congestion, this remedy can work wonders for you. Inhaling Himalayan salt reduces inflammation in the lungs. It’s a natural therapeutic remedy with no negative side effects. Many online sites including Ebay and Amazon sell them.

The Benefits Of A Salt Inhaler

1. It Helps With Sinus Problems
Salt inhalation therapy has been used for centuries to give the respiratory system a boost of strength. Studies have found that breathing in pure, ionized air in salt mines can help reduce respiratory problems, including general irritation caused by smoking and air pollution.

2. It Detoxes
The amount of chemical pollutants we breathe in on a daily basis might shock you. The air we breathe is full of smoke, dust, smog and even pet dander. Our lungs are under constant stress due to air pollution. Using a Himalayan salt inhaler can help detox your lungs and the air around you.
3. It Can Help Reduce Mucus Build Up

Pink Himalayan salt has natural cleansing abilities. We often get congested and experience a build up on mucus from toxins in the air. Using a Himalayan salt inhaler can help reduce excess mucus and relieve congestion.
4. It Protects The Body From Harmful Organisms
Himalayan salt can be used to cleanse the body of harmful organisms. It’s known for it’s antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties. Thanks to the 84 natural elements and minerals it contains, it gives the immune system a natural boost.

5. It Promotes Better Sleep
By reducing mucous build up and congestion, a salt inhaler can help eliminate night time coughing and even snoring. Using a Himalayan salt inhaler can help you breathe better at night for a more restful sleep.

How To Use A Salt Inhaler
1. Place Himalayan rocks inside your ceramic inhaler according to the package directions. Don’t use plastic inhalers.
2. Place the inhaler mouthpiece in your mouth.
3. Breathe in normally through your mouth and exhale through the nose.
4. Make sure you don’t add water, the inhaler is meant for dry therapy only.
5. When you inhale using long, slow, deep breaths, the salt ions will be brought to the lungs. The ions are able to bypass the nasal filtering system and go directly to the lungs, because they are so small. The lungs then absorb the ions and bring them into the bloodstream. This can help to reduce inflammation and reduce pain in the lungs from several conditions including asthma, bronchitis and pneumonia.

The power of Magnesium

The Power of Magnesium and What It Can Do For You
It is an antidote to stress, the most powerful relaxation mineral available, and it can help improve your sleep. It is important for us all to be more clued in to the benefits of magnesium, because we use it all the time in conventional medicine. But we never stop to think about why or how important it is to our general health or why it helps our bodies function better. Magnesium is a critical “medication” in hospitals. If someone was dying of a life-threatening arrhythmia (or irregular heart beat), magnesium may be used, intravenous magnesium. If someone was constipated or needed to prepare for colonoscopy, hospitals may use milk of magnesia or a green bottle of liquid magnesium citrate, which empties bowels. But you don’t have to be in the hospital to benefit from getting more magnesium. You can start taking regular magnesium supplementation today and see results.

The Relaxation Mineral
Think of magnesium as the relaxation mineral. Anything that is tight, irritable, crampy, and stiff — whether it is a body part or an even a mood — is a sign of magnesium deficiency. This critical mineral is actually responsible for over 300 enzyme reactions and is found in all of your tissues — but mainly in your bones, muscles, and brain. You must have it for your cells to make energy, for many different chemical pumps to work, to stabilize membranes, and to help muscles relax.
That is why the list of conditions that are found related to magnesium deficiency is so long. In fact, there are over 3,500 medical references on magnesium deficiency! Even so, this mineral is mostly ignored because it is not a drug, even though it is MORE powerful than drugs in many cases. That’s why it is used in the hospital for life-threatening and emergency situations like seizures and heart failure.

You might be magnesium deficient if you have any of the following symptoms:
• Muscle cramps or twitches
• Insomnia
• Irritability
• Sensitivity to loud noises
• Anxiety
• Autism
• ADD
• Palpitations
• Angina
• Constipation
• Anal spasms
• Headaches
• Migraines
• Fibromyalgia
• Chronic fatigue
• Asthma
• Kidney stones
• Diabetes
• Obesity
• Osteoporosis
• High blood pressure
• PMS
• Menstrual cramps
• Irritable bladder
• Irritable bowel syndrome
• Reflux
• Trouble swallowing

Magnesium deficiency has even has been linked to inflammation in the body and higher CRP levels.
In our society, magnesium deficiency is a huge problem and about 15 percent of the general population — have magnesium deficiency. But this seriously underestimates the problem, because a serum magnesium level is the LEAST sensitive way to detect a drop in your total body magnesium level, so rates of magnesium deficiency could be even higher!
The reason we are so deficient is simple: Many of us eat a diet that contains practically no magnesium — a highly-processed, refined diet that is based mostly on white flour, meat, and dairy (all of which have no magnesium). When was the last time you had a good dose of sea vegetables (seaweed), nuts, greens, and beans?
Much of modern life conspires to help us lose what little magnesium we do get in our diet. Magnesium levels are decreased by excess alcohol, salt, coffee, phosphoric acid in colas, profuse sweating, prolonged or intense stress, excessive menstruation, diuretics (water pills), antibiotics and other drugs, and some intestinal parasites. In fact, in one study in Kosovo, people under chronic war stress lost large amounts of magnesium in their urine. This is all further complicated by the fact that magnesium is often poorly absorbed and easily lost from our bodies. To properly absorb magnesium we need a lot of it in our diet, plus enough vitamin B6, vitamin D, and selenium to get the job done. Magnesium deficiency accounts for untold suffering — and is simple to correct.

So if you suffer from any of the symptoms I mentioned or have any of the diseases I noted, don’t worry — it is an easy fix!! Here’s how.
Stop Draining Your Body of Magnesium
• Limit coffee, colas, salt, sugar, and alcohol
• Learn how to practice active relaxation – we can help http://www.simplystylishsuffolk.co.uk/wellness/
• Check with your doctor if your medication is causing magnesium loss (many high blood pressure drugs or diuretics cause loss of magnesium)
Eat Foods High in Magnesium
Include the following in your diet as often as you can: Kelp, wheat bran, wheat germ, almonds, cashews, buckwheat, brazil nuts, millet, pecans, walnuts, rye, tofu, soy beans, brown rice, figs, dates, collard greens, shrimp, avocado, parsley, beans, barley, dandelion greens, and garlic – Nutritional consultations http://www.simplystylishsuffolk.co.uk/wellness/
Take Magnesium Supplements
• The RDA (the minimum amount needed) for magnesium is about 300 mg a day. Most of us get far less than 200 mg.
• Some may need much more depending on their condition.
• Most people benefit from 400 to 1,000 mg a day.
• Avoid magnesium carbonate, sulfate, gluconate, and oxide. They are poorly absorbed (and the cheapest and most common forms found in supplements).
• Side effects from too much magnesium include diarrhea, which can be avoided if you switch to magnesium glycinate.
• Most minerals are best taken as a team with other minerals in a multi-mineral formula.
• Taking a hot bath with Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) is a good way to absorb and get much needed magnesium.
People with kidney disease or severe heart disease should take magnesium only under a doctor’s supervision. So if you’re coping with the symptoms here, relax! Magnesium is truly a miracle mineral. It is essential for lifelong vibrant health.
To your good health,
Mark Hyman, MD

Pukka Herbs talk Mens Health

What are the main areas of health that men are particularly concerned with and how can Ayurvedic remedies help?
The main areas of men’s health cover support for the cardiovascular system with particular focus on blood pressure, active health, energy, mental health, support for the prostate and prevention of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. Ayurveda can help across all these areas, helping to restore balance, promote relaxation and boost energy levels.
To what extent are men becoming more open to talking about and taking responsibility for their own health? Has this changed in recent years?
We are slowly seeing a gradual shift towards men becoming more health conscious. The number of men’s health and fitness magazines, blogs and web sites has exploded recently and we know that the number of men buying cosmetics and health products has increased over the years. For example, men are now one of the top buyers of mint and matcha based herbal teas. However, men are still less likely to talk about their health issues than women; testicular cancer, prostate cancer and mental health issues (suicide is still a disproportionately male phenomenon) are still diagnosed very late.
What was the thinking behind the development of the ManPlus product?
ManPlus was designed to help men cope with the pressures they face as they age. It enhances male health, providing strength and nourishment not just for the male reproductive system but to also address the key issues affecting male health such as heart problems and managing the pressures of life. Sebastian Pole, our Master Herbsmith, has formulated it based on his 15 years of clinical experience treating male health to act as a supplement suitable for everyday use available from Simply Stylish wellness clinic in Suffolk or online http://www.simplystylishsuffolk.co.uk/pukka-herb-supplements/

What areas of men’s health does it address?
ManPlus is strengthening and rejuvenating to the male reproductive system. It will improve vitality and endurance whilst also protecting the organs of the male reproductive system, especially the prostate and fertility.
How does it work?
Maca, amla, ginseng and hawthorn berry nourish the heart and cardiovascular system. Turmeric and Aloe Vera extract along with pomegranate help ease pain and inflammation that may be affecting the prostate. The cabbage and broccoli sprouts specifically help to present the conversion of testosterone to 5-DHT that can influence prostate size. The medicinal mushroom cordyceps, maca and ginseng nourish the libido that can become depleted with poor diet, stress and ageing. Potent antioxidants such as pomegranate, holy basil and spirulina help to protect against free radicals and encourage cell repair.
What other Pukka products address men’s health issues and how?

Pukka have recently relaunched a new range of turmeric supplements. The family includes a super-powered wholistically extracted Turmeric with high levels of both curcuminoids and essential oils including tumerones which work synergistically to enhance bioavailability within the body. Turmeric is a renowned anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that will support both the cardiovascular system and help reduce the onset of any chronic inflammation. It been put on the planet for active men..

Keep your Cortisol Hormone under control

7 Ways To Reduce The Cortisol In Your Body
‘’The stress hormone, cortisol, is public health “enemy number one.” Scientists have known for years that elevated cortisol levels: interfere with learning and memory, lower immune function and bone density, increase weight gain, blood pressure, cholesterol, heart disease…The list goes on and on’’. – Psychology Today
Our bodies produce cortisol when. Cortisol, in addition to epinephrine, is an important stress hormone that serves a variety of functions. In fact, cortisol helps keep us alive by maintaining our body’s homeostasis (balance). It helps regulate blood pressure levels, metabolic activity, immune system responses, blood pressure, inflammation, heart functions, blood vessel function, and central nervous system activity.

However, elevated stress levels, peri menopause & menopause can cause our body to overproduce this hormone. When this happens, the body is prone to a number of undesirable side effects including: high blood pressure, weight gain, elevated cholesterol, heart disease, anxiety and depression, immune system damage, and cognitive problems such as difficulty learning and impaired memory.

TIP – a great read to understand your hormones and the effect they have on your body, mind & spirit and in our opinion a “must read” for anyone over 40 is “It’s not you, it’s your hormones” by Nicki Williams ISBN 9781910056530
That said, it is important that we keep our cortisol levels stable.
HERE ARE 7 WAYS TO REDUCE CORTISOL IN THE BODY:

1. GET SOME EXERCISE
Is there anything that physical activity won’t help? Seriously… there seems to be a new study every other day that links exercise to health benefits. Anyways, getting exercise can help reduce cortisol by “releasing” pent up stress or other counterproductive emotions. One theory is that fear increases cortisol, and that by exercising we build upon our fortitude, resilience and self-confidence…effectively counteracting potential fear and reducing cortisol levels. Theories aside, exercise in any form is a great way to reduce cortisol levels.

2. PRACTICE MINDFULNESS OR MEDITATION
Any kind of meditation or mindfulness practice can lower cortisol levels. Even a few deep breaths in the middle of a hectic workday can reduce our anxiety and stress, which also lowers the stress hormone. A good, simple practice: when we start to feel stressed out in any way, take 10-15 deep breaths while feeling the body relax. Paying single-minded attention to our body and mind is called mindfulness – a practice that is incredibly beneficial to reducing a multitude of negative effects, both mental and physical. Of course, this reduces levels of cortisol.

3. CONNECT WITH OTHERS
It is believed that those with a predisposition towards mental illness who are socially isolated in adolescence are more at-risk for the development of abnormal behaviour later in life. A recent study confirms what many scientists already knew: human bonding is important to physical and mental health at any age. Familial ties, friendships and intimate relationships are all beneficial to stress and thus reduces cortisol levels.

4. LAUGH A LITTLE
“Laughter is the best medicine.” How many times have we heard this throughout our lives? Dr. William Fry, a behavioural psychiatrist whose been studying the effects of laughter for over 30 years, states that laughter is inextricably linked to a number of physical and mental benefits. One such benefit of laughter is its positive effect on stress hormone levels. Studies show that having a sense of humour, laughing and levity are all beneficial in reducing the levels of cortisol and other stress hormones.

5. LISTEN TO SOME TUNES
Pretty much all of us have experienced music’s mood-enhancing properties. There’s something about putting on a favourite tune and feeling much better for doing so. Turns out that there is a chemical reason for this: music increases the number of endorphins (“feel good” chemicals) and reduces the amount of stress hormones in the brain.

6. EAT HEALTHY
Certain foods such as eggs, fish, lean meat, flaxseed, citrus fruits, berries and leafy greens can help reduce cortisol levels. Another good idea for lowering stress and reducing cortisol is to incorporate five small meals a day. This helps to stave off hunger and reduce the common food cravings that result from high levels of cortisol. Finally, implementing a high-fibre and high-protein diet will aid in reducing stress hormones. Reducing complex carbohydrates (i.e. sugar and starches) is another idea that helps in keeping cortisol levels at bay. Alongside a good diet never underestimate the use of supplements such as Pukka Herbs Womankind which supports women’s health, balances hormones and inspires vitality http://www.simplystylishsuffolk.co.uk/pukka-herb-supplements/

7. GET ENOUGH SLEEP
This one is relatively simple to explain. Not getting adequate sleep (7 to 9 hours a night) produces a systematically negative response from the body. We’re prone to cognitive impairment and are more reactive to the environment around us – both things are very bad for stress.

The power of Holy Basil - Tulsi Tea

Holy basil isn’t the sweet basil you taste in marinara sauce or the herb you might use to flavour your homemade soup. Holy basil, also known as tulsi, is native to Southeast Asia. It has a long history in Indian medicine as a treatment for many health conditions, from eye diseases to ringworm. It’s considered an adaptogen herb, which means it helps promote balance to restore and protect the body.
Holy basil is highly nutritious. It contains calcium, zinc, iron and chlorophyll, along with Vitamins A and C. It can be used as a natural medicine for many health issues. Today, holy basil is usually consumed in supplement form, or in tulsi tea. It’s ability to balance the body can work wonders on the body.

Here’s why you should drink holy basil Three Tulsi tea:

1. It Can Help Clear Skin Problems
A team of researchers from Thailand conducted a study to find out how holy basil works against bacteria. They found that a 3% concentration of holy basil oil proved effective against bacteria that causes acne. The primary compound of holy basil is eugenol, which is the active ingredients in clove oil – a powerful antimicrobial with many health benefits for the skin. When using tulsi for acne, use unrefined virgin coconut oil as a carrier. When it’s melted, it is more easily absorbed into the skin.

2. It Can Help Prevent Cancer
Holy basil contains anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties. It can help protect the body from fever, pain and stress. It can also protect vital organs such as the liver. People who regularly consume tulsi are less likely to be immune-compromised, so they are less susceptible to developing cancer cells. The phytochemicals in tulsi prevent chemical-induced skin, liver, oral and lung cancers, thanks to their ability to increase antioxidant activity. They also help to prevent radiation induced DNA-damage.

3. It Can Help Control Diabetes
Tulsi has been used for years to control blood glucose and act as a natural diabetes remedy. Holy basil can also help prevent symptoms of diabetes, including weight gain, hypertension and high cholesterol.

4. It Prevents Elevated Cortisol Levels and Reduces Stress
The hypoglycaemic effects of holy basil may be due to its ability to regulate serum cortisol levels. Cortisol is often referred to as the stress hormone. Elevated cortisol levels are responsible for a number of health problems in the body. Elevated cortisol levels can cause mood swings, weight gain, acne, high blood pressure and anxiety, among other problems. Holy basil has been found to reduce anxiety and emotional stress to prevent these issues. It’s able to balance the hormone levels in the body to prevent cortisol levels from becoming too high.

5. It tastes delicious!

Ten secrets of slenderness known only to French ladies

Ever wondered how French women manage to stay slim and elegant while eating chocolate with huge amounts of cheese and washing it all down with wine. It’s all the more surprising due to the fact that they are not obsessed with diets or exhausting training sessions in the gym. Their secret is in their attitude to food that is fostered in them from childhood.
What do you think & should we adopt their habits to stay in shape without too much trouble and even with pleasure.
Food as a sacrament
This is probably the principal secret of every French lady. Treating food with reverence doesn’t let them eat junk or when on the go. You may say that the French are obsessed with food, but their obsession is with exquisiteness and beauty and not with the amounts. French women often have their lunch and dinner at restaurants or cafes, enjoying small helpings, wine, and good company.
’For France, a meal is a very particular moment in which you share pleasure: the food as well as the conversation. In many other countries, sadly, food is just fuel to give energy to your muscles. If you have no pleasure in it, you are breaking all the rules of eating.’ says Parisian nutritionist Dr. Francoise L’Hermite.

A French lady chooses quality

French women prefer the best, the freshest, and the most select. Their principle is to opt for pricier and better, rather than for more and cheaper. There are no alternatives: it would always be a few pieces of quality dark chocolate or a light handmade cake, and never a big helping of inexpensive ice cream (which will most certainly contain harmful transfats); she would always prefer fresh fish over cheap chicken of unknown quality. French ladies are a living illustration of the universal truth: you are what you eat.
Rachel Khoo, the owner of Parisian restaurant La Petite Cuisine, says, ’Even though I was on a budget, I could afford to go to the fresh food market and get baguettes and cheese. I really love that in Paris there is no division (in terms of food) by social class.’

A French lady often puts her fork down on her plate
No French woman will send spoonful after spoonful into her mouth, turning lunch or dinner into ’refueling’ her body. She will eat slowly, swallow every single bit of food with gusto, and make pauses to talk with those she is at the table with, thus making an ordinary meal a celebration of taste and companionship.
She is perfectly honest with herself in terms of food but never forbids herself anything
A French lady fully understands that foie gras or Brie cheese are very fatty foods. She knows perfectly well that she won’t be able to stay in good shape if she eats croissants and fresh bread twice a day. Yet she will never forbid herself anything. French ladies don’t regret their petits riens — those little ’guilty pleasures.’ You shouldn’t say, ’I don’t eat sweets,’ and then look into your friend’s plate with eyes full of hunger and jealousy. Why torture yourself so? That will only lead to you breaking the leash one day and then suffering even more because of guilt and lack of will.

A French lady is all about moderation and balance
French women know the difference between a wish to treat yourself to something tasty and self-indulgence. If they want to stay in shape, they won’t eat cakes, cheese, and bread all in one day. They don’t forbid themselves little pleasures, but they do understand that slenderness can only be maintained with moderation and balance. You can eat a piece of cake today, but your dinner won’t include a garnish then — for example, a duck breast and salad. You may treat yourself to some chocolate tomorrow and some wine with cheese and nuts the day after. Sophie Marceau, for instance, eats everything, just not too much. ’Not junk food, but I love wine and chocolate, and in that, as in many other tasty things, I don’t restrict myself.’
Too much sugar or salt is not for her
French dishes are known for their elegant flavour, and if they contain spices it is only to highlight the natural taste and aroma of the ingredients. French ladies have learned from childhood that anything ’too much’ is not for them. A piece of cake that is too sweet or too creamy will be laid aside in favour of a light cream and fruit tart, as will any foods that are too salty or over fried.

A French lady will wait for dinner rather than eat on the move

A French woman may, of course, have a cup of coffee with a cookie or two between meals, but she definitely won’t get carried away. She will prefer to wait for dinner and have a good chunk of meat with salad, thinking of light hunger as the best aperitif to tasty food. If lunch or dinner is too far away, though, and you’re starving, the best option is natural yogurt with no sweeteners. The French eat much more yogurt than any other Europeans. Mireille Guiliano, the author of the French Women Don’t Get Fat blog, writes that consumption of this product in France is about 20 kg (44 lbs) per person a year.
She always eats at a well-set table

French ladies won’t deprive themselves of a pleasure to eat slowly and with taste, sitting at a finely set table. They’re not used to eating at a corner of a table or at their desks, licking their fingers in between eating and typing. Lengthy lunch breaks are very common in French offices. ’Slow food’ goes down better and lets you enjoy the process too. When we eat with haste we, on the contrary, often don’t pay attention to either taste or aroma. That’s why we want to have a sweet snack after an hour to get our dose of happiness.
Being active is a way of life, not a way to ’shake off what you ate
Active pastimes are a part of national culture in France. French women go hiking, travel into the mountains, and they love kayaking, playing tennis, running in parks, skiing, and so on. Moreover, they walk a lot. And all that is a way of their life, not a desperate method to ’shake off’ the food they consume or self-torture in an attempt to achieve perfection. French ladies think that any self-abuse is bad for female well-being. Those who move a lot, prefer walking over driving, eat quality food well and with pleasure — those people don’t get overweight.

A French lady does not worry over excesses or punish her own body
We’re all human, and sometimes we indulge ourselves. That happens with French ladies too, although they care much about themselves. However, even if they let themselves have a bit too much of something and break the rule of moderation, they don’t take it as a tragedy and fall into extremes. They won’t punish their body and say, ’I ate too much yesterday, so now I’ll starve for a bit and work out in the gym for two hours. A

French woman will soon get bored to death if she has to calculate calories, carbs, proteins, fats, and transfats, and she will get utterly depressed if she has to bring this knowledge to practice with regard to the blessed part of her life — food. She prefers to treat food as a pleasure, but always remembers moderation and balance. This is the art of living with pleasure. By Brigtside.me

Sleep. Stress. Memory - ASHWAGANDHA  What Is Ashwagandha?  By Jenna Saunders  Ashwagandha, one of the most powerful herbs in Ayurvedic healing, has been used since ancient times for a wide variety of conditions, and is most well-known for its restorative benefits. In Sanskrit Ashwagandha means “the smell of a horse,” indicating that the herb imparts the vigor and strength of a stallion, and has traditionally been prescribed to help people strengthen their immune system after an illness.  Ashwagandha is frequently referred to as “Indian ginseng” because of its rejuvenating properties, even though botanically, ginseng and Ashwagandha are unrelated. Belonging to the same family as the tomato, Ashwagandha is a plump shrub with oval leaves and yellow flowers. It bears red fruit about the size of a raisin. The herb is native to the dry regions of India, northern Africa, and the Middle East, and today is also grown in more mild climates, including the United States.

Why Use Ashwagandha?
Do any of these common symptoms sound familiar?
Stress
Fatigue
Lack of energy
Difficulty concentrating
The use of the Ayurvedic herb, Ashwagandha can help alleviate these symptoms and support an energetic and rejuvenating sense of wellbeing.
Benefits and Healing Effects
Ashwagandha contains many useful medicinal chemicals, including withanolides (steroidal lactones), alkaloids, choline, fatty acids, amino acids, and a variety of sugars. While the leaves and fruit have valuable therapeutic properties, the root of the Ashwagandha plant is the part most commonly used in Western herbal remedies.
Medical researchers have been studying Ashwagandha for years with great interest and have completed more than 200 studies on the healing benefits of this botanical.

Some key examples of the healing effects of Ashwagandha are:
Protects the immune system
Helps combat the effects of stress
Improves learning, memory, and reaction time
Reduces anxiety and depression without causing drowsiness
Helps reduce brain-cell degeneration
Stabilizes blood sugar
Helps lower cholesterol
Offers anti-inflammatory benefits
Contains anti-malarial properties
Enhances sexual potency for both men and women
Ashwagandha as an Adaptogenic Herb

In Ayurveda, there are specific herbs with adaptogenic benefits, Ashwagandha is one of them. Adaptogens are substances (a combination of amino acids, vitamins, and herbs) that modulate your response to stress or a changing environment. Adaptogens help the body cope with external stresses such as toxins in the environment and internal stresses such as anxiety and insomnia.
How to Add Ashwagandha to Your Daily Diet
According to Ayurveda, our bodies are woven from food. The nutrients we ingest are metabolized into the energy and information that form our cells, tissues, and organs. Every day our bodies need essential vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients to maintain our body’s delicate balance. Taking an Ashwagandha supplement is a highly effective way to create that balance.
Ashwagandha is typically ingested in capsule form.
Ashwagandha supplements from Pukka Herbs made with Ashwagandha whole root are available from Simply Stylish at http://www.simplystylishsuffolk.co.uk/pukka-herb-supplements/

10 Health Benefits of Ashwagandha
1. The benefits of Ashwagandha are perfect for those battling stress, as it inhibits high levels of cortisol, 'the stress hormone'. It is in fact used in tranquilizers and antidepressants drugs, since it helps relieve physical and mental stress and overcome depression.
2. Ashwagandha has a rich history in Ayurveda for its wound healing abilities. Traditionally, fresh leaves were used topically to heal joint pains, skin sores and to reduce swelling.
3. The results, published in the Indian Journal of Psychological Medicine show that Ashwagandha helps promote relaxation as it is a natural adaptogen.
4. In Ayurveda, Ashwagandha is referred to as balya, which means giving strength in conditions like general debility. It is known to improve energy, increase stamina and endurance.
5. The exotic herb is a promising alternative treatment for a variety of mental degenerative diseases because it has demonstrated an ability to promote the growth of nerve cells, and protect the brain cells from the harmful effects of the environment.
6. Ashwagandha is used as an aphrodisiac as well, since it supports sexual health.
7. It has been used for centuries as a general body tonic, as it makes you feel stronger and healthier. It is also present in Chyawanprash, the delicious and famous concoction stocked up in every Indian household.
8. In addition to boosting your overall immunity, Ashwagandha also has the potential to be a serious anti-cancer agent as it slows the growth of cancerous tumors.
9. "Ashwagandha also acts on the endocrine system by encouraging hormone balance", says Dr Ashutosh Gautam, Clinical Operations and Coordination Manager at Baidyanath. Studies suggest reduction in symptoms such as hot flushes and mood swings during menopause.
10. The rejuvenating properties of Ashwagandha make it very effective in treating insomnia. It calms the nervous system, eases stress and gets rid of sleeplessness.

Beauty Benefits of Ashwagandha
Ageing: Tired of looking at wrinkled, dry, sagging skin when you look in the mirror? It's Ashwagandha to the rescue. Its potent antioxidant properties help protect the skin against free radical damage and slow down the ageing process by firming up your skin for a more youthful look
Skincare: Ashwagandha stimulates DHEA, which is a precursor to both testosterone and estrogen and stimulates the production of natural skin oils. It also promotes the production of vital compounds and proteins for healthy skin such as hyaluronan for skin hydration, elastin to keep the skin supple and collagen for skin strength.
Healthy Hair: Used in shampoos, Ashwagandha is believed to help improve scalp circulation and strengthen the hair, as well as help get rid of dandruff. It also appears to stimulate production of melanin, the pigment responsible for the colour of your hair. So, it may actually reverse greying of hair. And if that wasn't enough, it also helps deal with hair loss.

Get Your Feet Out!!!!  Walking Barefoot Might Be An Essential Element of Good Health SOURCE: HTTP://ARTICLES.MERCOLA.COM/SITES/ARTICLES/ARCHIVE/2012/09/20/BAREFOOT-ON-ELECTRON-DEFICIENCY.ASPX When's the last time you kicked off your shoes and revelled in the feeling of the Earth under your feet? Been awhile?  Would you like to learn how to bring meditative walking into your health regime? Art of Stillness & Calm Session

It may sound hard to believe, but engaging in this simple pleasure could give your health a much-needed boost.

Walking barefoot outside, with the soles of your feet free to mesh with the surface of the Earth – is an activity known as Earthing, or grounding.
You are an Electrical Being, and the Earth's Surface is Electrically Conductive
You are an electrical being - your body regularly produces positive charges, which can oxidize and harm you if excessive. The Earth's surface is electrically conductive; it maintains a negative charge with its free electron supply continually replenished by the global atmospheric electrical circuit.

As reported in the Journal of Environmental and Public Health:
"It is an established fact that the Earth's surface possesses a limitless and continuously renewed supply of free or mobile electrons. Mounting evidence suggests that the Earth's negative potential can create a stable internal bioelectrical environment for the normal functioning of all body systems. Moreover, oscillations of the intensity of the Earth's potential may be important for setting the biological clocks regulating diurnal body rhythms, such as cortisol secretion."

There is growing research showing that this connection to the Earth's surface plays a vital role in preventing disease and as well as offering a host of benefits.
The problem, of course, is that while humans have historically spent much of their days with their bare skin next to the Earth (both while walking and sleeping, including on animal skins, which still allow electrons to enter the body), today this vital connection has been lost.

Modern lifestyle has increasingly separated humans from the primordial flow of Earth's electrons.

For example, since the 1960's, we have increasingly worn insulating rubber or plastic soled shoes, instead of the traditional leather fashioned from hides… Obviously, we no longer sleep on the ground as we did in times past.

What Happens When You Absorb Free Electrons from the Earth?
The scientific theory behind the health benefits seen from this simple practice, is that since the Earth has a greater negative charge than your body, you end up absorbing electrons from it. This is, in my understanding, one of the most potent antioxidants we know of and may have an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect on your body.

To put it simply, it's thought that the influx of free electrons from the Earth's surface will help to neutralize free radicals and reduce both acute and chronic inflammation, which is at the root of many health conditions and accelerated aging.

Earthing research has revealed an impressive impact on a variety of health conditions and was found to offer improvements in the following conditions:
Sleep disturbances, including sleep apnea
Chronic muscle and joint pain, and other types of pain
Asthmatic and respiratory conditions
Rheumatoid arthritis
Inflammation
PMS
Hypertension
Energy levels
Stress
Immune system activity and response
Heart rate variability
Primary indicators of osteoporosis
Fasting glucose levels among people with diabetes
The effects of grounding appear to be so profound that researchers suggest health practitioners prescribe outdoor "barefoot sessions". This is as simple as it sounds – you kick off your shoes and socks and walk barefoot on the grass, the dirt, the sand or whatever "Earth" is available to you.

Studies suggest that benefits such as pain relief and stress reduction may occur in just 30-80 minutes of barefoot time a day.

Sciatic Pain - Symptoms. Causes. Treatments.

Sciatica pain radiates downwards from the lower back, back of the thigh, between the calves and into the foot. Numbness and tingling may radiate into the foot. Inflammation near a degenerating inter-vertebral disk, a slipped disc, a pinched nerve, narrowing of spinal canal, and aging can cause sciatica. Alternative treatments include chiropractic manipulation, acupuncture, and massage therapy and reflexology.

Massage and reflexology both available at http://www.simplystylishsuffolk.co.uk/treatments/ If you have been wondering what sciatica is and how its treated, you are not alone. Sciatica is actually a symptom of an underlying medical condition and not a diagnosis in itself, contrary to the belief of many.

Symptoms, Causes And Treatment Options For Sciatica
by Dr. Ryan Curda for Cure Joy.

Generally, it presents itself in the form of sharp pain affecting the back, hip, and outer side of the leg. Usually, the pain is sensed on one side of the body, typically from the low back to behind the thigh and searing down below the knee. It is due to the exasperation of the sciatic nerve, which is the largest nerve in the body. The symptoms can vary from infrequent and irritating to constant and incapacitating pain.
Symptoms Of Sciatica

Specific sciatica symptoms can be different in location and severity, depending upon the condition causing sciatica. The pain can be debilitating, and without proper treatment, lasting sciatic nerve damage can result.
The specific sciatica symptoms, include, but are not limited to leg pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, and symptoms that radiate into the foot depending on where the nerve is pinched.
Causes of Sciatica

A substantial percentage of the cause(s) behind this medical condition often result from a compression of a spinal nerve root in the lower back, due to the degeneration of an intervertebral disk, down in the lumbar spine. Termed as the Lumbar Degenerative Disc Disease, the condition is surprisingly a natural process that occurs with aging.

Degenerative disc disease is diagnosed when a weakened disc results in excessive micro-motion at that spinal level, and inflammatory proteins from inside the disc become exposed and irritate the nerve root(s) in the area.
The Lumbar Herniated Disc is another notorious culprit behind the sciatica pain. It occurs when the soft inner core of the disc (nucleus pulposus) leaks out, or herniates, through the fibrous outer core, called the annulus, and irritates the contiguous nerve root.
Also known as a slipped disk or a pinched nerve, sciatica is an ally of the lumbar herniated disc.
Lumbar Spinal Stenosis, commonly due to a narrowing of the spinal canal, is another medical condition that could earn you sciatica pain. Lumbar spinal stenosis is related to natural aging in the spine and is relatively common in adults over the age 60.

The narrowing of the spinal canal may result from a combination of one or more of the following:
Enlarged facet joints
Overgrowth of soft tissue
A bulging disc placing pressure on the nerve roots, causing sciatica pain
Other medical conditions that are top suspects behind sciatica pain include Piriformis syndrome. It is an irritation of the as it runs under the piriformis muscle in the buttock and Sacroiliac joint dysfunction, which is the irritation of the sacroiliac joint that is located at the bottom of the spine.

Been Ignoring Your Back Pain?
Think again. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NIH), about 5% – 10% of lower back pain is caused by Sciatica. However, regular exercises go a long way to relieving the pain. With severe sciatic nerve pain, the condition may need to be treated so that it does not get worse over time.
When the pain is severe or does not get better on its own, a more structured treatment approach, such as surgery, may offer the best approach to finding pain relief. Initial treatment is typically managed with pain medications, and it is usually recommended that one continues with activities to the best of their abilities.

Most reported cases subside in less than six to eight weeks. While surgery often speeds pain improvement, it should be the last resort. Surgery may be required if complications occur such as bowel or bladder problems.
Other Treatment Options
In addition to regular medical treatments, several substitute treatments have also been shown to provide operative sciatica pain relief for many patients.

Three of the more common forms of alternative care for sciatica include chiropractic manipulation, acupuncture, and massage therapy available at http://www.simplystylishsuffolk.co.uk/treatments/If you think you or someone you know may have Sciatica, you should make an appointment with your doctor.

"BE KIND WHENEVER POSSIBLE, IT IS ALWAYS POSSIBLE" Dalai Lama

Can you recall how you felt the last time you gave or received a compliment? Receiving a compliment is kind of like receiving a gift. It is a bundle of positive energy being passed on to you in the form of appreciation. The right compliment can make someone’s day, cheer the person up and help them feel appreciated. In turn, it also makes you feel good too!

That is part of the beauty of this gift. Giving and receiving is beneficial for both parties.
This little bundle of appreciation can actually have a pretty big impact, especially when it is sincere and when it comes straight from the heart. Listed below are 10 of what we consider to be some of the best compliments you can give or receive. If you manage to hear one or more of these, give yourself a pat on the back. It means you’ve probably influenced another person in a very positive way!

1. “You are always there for me” Everyone needs a shoulder they can lean on every once in a while. Being the person others can rely on can have a lot more impact on people than you think. Maybe another functions as that person for you. If that is the case, this is a beautiful compliment to pay them.

2. “You always manage to put a smile on my face”
In the darkest times, it is important to find some positivity. In some cases, that speck of light comes in the form of a person that is able to make you smile. When a smile is created, a gateway is opened to more happiness.

3. “You always see the glass half full”
Different situations can be viewed in different shades of light. When looking at a situation from a negative perspective it may cause people to stress and shut down to solutions. Having a person around that points out the bright side of things will make it easier to process the situation. This can also help to create new solutions to work with, being more open to new input. Optimism is always good!

4. “You are/would make such a great parent”
Being a parent means you are of the greatest influence in a child’s life and a major factor on how this young person turns out to be. When someone tells you would make or you are a great parent, it means they acknowledge your value in the life of this child. Truly a gem of a compliment.

5. “You are as beautiful on the inside as you are the outside”
Receiving a compliment about your physical appearance is a nice little ego-boost. Receiving a compliment about your inside is a compliment with deeper meaning. You are being recognized and appreciated for your personality AND your looks. Bonus!

6. “You are such a great example to others”
To function as an example for others is like being a frontrunner and being a frontrunner is never easy. Being recognized as an example or a role model to others is a compliment on its own. But when someone acknowledges you as a good example, you are truly deserve to feel a sense of pride.

7. “You are a breath of fresh air”
Imagine being served an ice cold glass of lemonade on a hot summer day. Sometimes you don’t even realize how much you were missing it. Only when it stands in front of you do you truly see the value. Well, if you managed to be someone’s glass of ice cold lemonade, then good job! In your daily life, you might be so stuck in a routine you might not even realize it. When a person suddenly gives you a new way of thinking or just stops the autopilot on your routine, they are worthy of a nice compliment such as this one.

8. “You are such a trustworthy person”
People you can truly trust are quite scarce. When you are being called a trustworthy person, cherish it and take this gift to heart. It takes quite a bit of effort for some people to confide in others. Being that special person others can confide is in many ways a gift to them. You make others feel safe, heard and many times understood. Make sure you find your own trustworthy person, it is important you can “do” or “say” as well.

9. “You truly walk the walk”
It is easy to talk about all the things you can and will do, as they say, ‘talk the talk’. But when it really comes to it, what is really done? It becomes a whole different story. Suddenly it seems to be quite a bit harder than just talking about it.
When a compliment is being made that you walk the walk, you are true to your word. Not only that, you back your word up with deeds. A beautiful recognition and something to be proud of as a trait.

10.”Thank you for being you”
This compliment sounds simple but has such a deep meaning and is one of the most beautiful bundles of words you can ever get. When someone pays you this compliment, this person not only fully accepts you for who you are but also appreciates you. Nothing more and nothing less. It is an acknowledgment of and appreciation for you being in this person’s life.

Benefits of Dry Skin Brushing

Give Your Skin A Quick Detox With Dry Brushing
By Julie Pecarski
The body expels 1/3 of the body’s toxins through skin. Use a natural-bristle dry brush on your skin before taking a shower. It exfoliates and detoxes the skin, enhances immunity, improves blood circulation, and reduces cellulite. Starting from the soles of your feet, with a consistent circular movement, gently brush your way up to your legs, hips, chest, arms, armpits, back, and neck.

Why Dry Brush?
We may often think that our internal organs do most of the detoxing, but our skin actually releases 1/3 of our body’s toxins.
Our skin is our body’s largest organ; so as we give our digestive system, or perhaps the liver, some extra-special love with the foods we eat, our skin deserves a li’l loving as well!
What Are Its Benefits?
The benefits of dry brushing include:
Overall skin detoxification
Exfoliation (i.e., removal of ingrown hairs)
Improved skin tone
Improved circulation
Reduction of cellulite
Improved immunity by stimulating the lymphatic system
Some Tips Before You Start
Make this a twice a week ritual.
You’ll need to invest in a natural-bristle dry brush. The longer the handle the better to get to those hard-to-reach areas.
This process should take 5–10 minutes, so it’s not a huge investment of your time. The best time to do this is right before you shower.
Start at your feet and gently brush toward your heart in long, sweeping motions.
For a bonus, drop a couple of drops of your favourite essential oils, like grapefruit or lemongrass, for a little extra detoxification and zing!
Legs
Brush gently over all areas and sides of the leg and foot, including the soles of the feet. Repeat over the same areas 6–10 times.
Butt/Thighs
Once your legs are done, brush over your bum from the back up over the hip and outer thigh toward the groin.
Hands/Arms
Begin at your fingers and palms, working up toward your armpits and shoulders.
There are many lymph nodes in the armpits, so give it some extra special love by working in gentle circular motions, both clockwise and anticlockwise.
Chest/Breast
In gentle circular motions, brush over your chest and gently over your breasts, moving down toward the stomach.
Stomach
Brush in circular strokes around the abdomen.
Back

Bring a little colour into your life...

My latest styling client was a full time working mother, she has been in the area for 4 years after a very different life style in Cyprus, where sun, fun and dressing up featured prominently. Eating out was easy due to the fantastic weather and the social scene was all about meeting for drinks, food or just catching up with other families over a dessert in a local restaurant. Life in England is slightly different and my clients styling confidence is not what it used to be, she rarely dresses up, social occasions find herself bundled up in jumpers, popping on the jeans and boots rather than summery dresses and sandals. My clients body shape has changed over the last year which has made her question what she looks good in and she finds herself seeking out the same familiar outfits in her wardrobe, whilst leaving the more exciting choices to the back of the wardrobe for fear they are not quite right anymore.

Simply Stylish full styling experience starts with a colour analysis. Colour happens to the be the important factor in everything we buy, choose and surround ourselves with, this can be from the car and furniture you have to the soap, food and art you buy. We then move on from this to assess body image. Body shapes usually fall into 4 main categories the apple, the pear the athlete and the hourglass figure. I then work closely with the client on a wardrobe assessment, we sift through favourite items in the wardrobe, we clear out items that will never be worn again or can be up-cycled, altered or nipped and tucked for a new look or lease of life. We identify key items missing that can complete different looks. Once this is all done some clients feel they have enough confidence to go out there and make wise purchases, if this is not the case I offer a personal shopping experience to identify new looks, challenge you to try different things and ensure you make value for money choices that will work with the rest of your wardrobe.

Colour is crucial in fashion because it is the first thing we notice about a garment. We then notice fabric, silhouette, and finally detailing. Colours are associated with temperature and broken down into 2 main categories. There are Warm colours, these are associated with heat and are red, red-orange, orange etc. they attract attention and have an enlarging effect. Cool colours are associated with cold sensations such as ice, water and the sea they can be blue, blue-green, green etc. Cool colours make things recede so we can appear smaller and more distant. When carrying out a colour analysis I check the skin undertones to see if you are either warm or cool, I take notice of your eye and hair colour, with all this information I can then advise you about the most flattering colours and the colour season that you are.
This client was a Winter colouring, this is all about striking contrast. A winter client will have dark or light skin contrasted with dark or icy features. My client had olive skin, dark hair and eyes and an hourglass figure, it was priority to choose colour well, emphasise her waist and add some height and make her feel confident with a new look. When shopping for a winter client we needed to think about red, blue, and cool colours then mix with vivid; sharp, clear, and icy contrasts. We needed to add a few basics to the existing wardrobe that could update old looks. We needed some contrasting stunning items to lift what we already had.
A winter client’s natural hair colour is normally best left and my client was no exception, she had beautiful thick, mid length dark brown with red tinges ,the director of hair styling wanted to softly curl the hair and then pin some up and away from the face for the day look this kept a casual look. She also wanted to show how easy it was with a few pins to transform that casual look into something more formal for dinner, they made loose curls and pinned these into the nape of the neck, this look was elegant and sophisticated.
My clients olive skin was a flawless and only needed enhancing rather than heavy coverage. A moisturiser that reacts to the skin tone to give a minimum coverage but absolutely matching the tone of the skin was used, a simply stunning product. Eye make-up was kept natural with emphasis on lining the eye which added a little drama to the face. Lips were kept matt to balance the depth of the dark eyes and hair. Darker concealer was used to contour under the cheekbones and on the side of nose to reshape and define.

We needed 2 key looks, 1 that allowed my client to feel confident in her daytime surroundings. This outfit needed to be comfortable, show off her personality and give her the confidence to feel great without feeling out of place. The evening outfit needed a special edge to it, that would be easy to wear out to dinner. My client had a passion for fashion, that she felt had been lost in the last few years, so we wanted to push the limits a little and choose something that was different but was an outfit that showed her as off as the gorgeous, edgy women that she was. We did not have budget for them to be a “one wear only” item of clothing, they needed to sit alongside other items in her wardrobe and be versatile enough to wear over and over.
Our day time outfit was a show stopping red coat, red is an ideal colour for the client’s olive skin tone and also reflected her personality, with a dash of colour like this it allowed us to go for versatile colours on the other items that would mix with her existing clothes. The wraparound cardigan, with the deep V neckline, was perfect, showing off the small waist, and giving length to the upper torso. A great basic! The skirt was a wow factor piece; attention to detail, the cut, the fabric made this special. The skirt length and colour minimised the area that the client least liked – her thighs – dark colour makes you look slimmer! The boots added height with this seasons key shaped block heel.

The dinner outfit was a spectacular dress, the technical design of this dress was just perfect for the client, the waist with detailed buckle fastening emphasised that small waist, the open lapelled collar added length to the neck and torso, the dropped pockets added height and the knee length cut of the dress minimised the thighs. My client was very concerned about her knees and dark velvet touch opaque tights minimised this to give a polished overall look. The coat was a favourite of the clients, it was sumptuous, elegant and super cosy, the perfect going out to dinner outerwear – Simply Stylish.

A huge bonus for a client is finding out their own personal colours, it gives confidence so clients will spend less time and energy shopping, assured that they will look great with their new knowledge. This was a super client, willing to try different ideas. I had already established my client had a hidden fashion diva in her and I wanted her to embrace that a little more. I had seen evidence of this in some beautiful clothes in her wardrobe which did not get worn anymore. She had a unique style but had lost the passion to embrace it. There were some little elements she was still unsure about after the session, like showing her knees, curling her hair, as this did not feel like a natural look, however she did look and feel gorgeous, she had fantastic confidence in front of the camera and fell in love with her new outfits –she also mentioned she would have worn bright red lipstick!!

Loving lemons...

Here are just a few:

Flushes out toxins
Helps the nutrients get to your organs and tissues
Regulates body temperature
Protects joints and organs
Boost metabolism
We get 20% of our water through food so what about the other 80%? It’s up to you to provide your body with that.
If you find water bland, you don’t have to drink boring bland water anymore to get that 80%. Grab a lemon and start slicing and squeezing.
Move over bland water. Hello lemon water.
Here are some reasons why you should be heading to the grocery shop and stocking up on these cute little yellow fruits.
1. Natural Vitamin C.
Remember your doctor telling you Vitamin C is pretty darned important for healing wounds, providing nutrients and creating collagen for your body just to name a few things. This vitamin does not get stored in your body so you need to replenish the supply daily. What better way than to drink it naturally.
2. Potassium please.
Lemons have potassium too. This mineral is good for the heart and helps lower high blood pressure and reduces your risk of stroke.
3. Clean that liver.
We all know that our liver has a big job. It filters and flushes out the toxins. Drinking water is important in aiding the liver to do that but did you know that water with lemon lowers the toxins in your body so the liver does not have to work quite as hard?
4. Digestion aid.
Lemon water is great for helping with digestion. Try squeezing some lemon into some warm water, not cold, and drink it after a meal. Chances of having an upset stomach after dinner will be slim.
5. Wanting to lose weight.
Trying to lose weight or maintain your figure? Try drinking lemon water before a meal or before going out to eat. It is a great appetite suppressor. You will feel fuller, sooner and longer and won’t eat as much.
6. No more sore stomach.
Lemon water will naturally soothe a sore tummy and relieve indigestion.
7. Clearer skin.
We all know that drinking lots of water keeps our skin soft and supple but did you know that putting some lemon in that water will help keep your skin clearer too? Of course, remember it is flushing toxins out of our body better and because of that, better skin.
8. Say aaaaah with more confidence.
Lemon water gives you fresher breath so you won’t have to be embarrassed by bad breath again. The sweet citrusy drink cleanses your palettes and your breath naturally.
9. More energy than coffee.
Absolutely. Try replacing your regular morning coffee with a cup of warm water and lemon for a week and see what happens. The first two days you may feel a slight detox from the coffee but I guarantee you will feel better the rest of the day.
10. Start the day right!
If you don’t think you are ready to give up coffee just yet, that’s ok. How about having a nice glass of lemon water while the coffee is brewing?
Your body has been asleep and without hydration for almost 8 hours so it desperately needs water upon waking.
Remember, even though coffee is made of water, it will not rehydrate you. In fact, it will do the exact opposite. Do yourself a favour, give your body some water.

Body Image, Self-Confidence and the Narc.

8 Ways Narcissists Destroy Your Confidence And Self image
by Steve Waller

Narcissism is on the rise – especially among young people. This worrying trend makes it all the more important to educate yourself about the narcissist and how they operate so that you may protect yourself from their influence.

With this in mind, we’re going to explore some of the many ways in which a narcissist will seek to corrupt your mind, suck the confidence out of you, and bulldoze their way through the image you have of yourself.
Let’s dive straight in and explore the 8 most damaging ways that a narcissist will act towards others.

1. The Belittling Phrases They Aim At You
Narcissists are very careful about the words they choose and they try to use phrases that aid their goals and indulge their ego. Often, when their words are aimed at other people, they are designed to confuse and upset their targets.

They will say things such as “you’re too sensitive” or “you’ve misunderstood me” to make you think that your reaction to them is unjustified and that you must be projecting your own, personal issues.
Or they might play the classic “I hate drama” card when tensions are rising to suggest that you, and not they, are the source of the conflict when, in fact, they are to blame.
Narcissists will probably have a handful of these destructive phrases that they like to use regularly, so watch out for this trait as a clear sign that you’re dealing with one.

2. The Snipes They Direct At You
Continuing on the theme of what a narcissist might say, you should be wary of someone who often seeks to put other people down – both to their face and behind their back.
Such sly comments are subtle, but they are filled with negativity. While they may not seem like much in isolation, when they occur regularly, they can be incredibly damaging to the person they are directed at.

3. It’s Always The Other Person’s Fault
A narcissist never believes that they have done wrong; if anyone is to blame in their eyes, it is always someone else.
To admit guilt would be like a dagger to the heart of a narcissist’s ego, so they will seek to shift the responsibility onto those around them. Sometimes they will go to extraordinary lengths to link another person to problems of their own making; nothing is off the table as far as they are concerned.
But to the person they are blaming, it is often an utterly confusing and stressful accusation that casts doubt in their minds and makes them feel unsure about their actions.

4. They Seek To Instigate Confrontation
Linked directly to the previous point about blame, a narcissist thrives in the field of battle and will actively create conflict between themselves and others (and also between 2 other people entirely) as a way to create a false sense of superiority and importance.
Narcissists actually enjoy drama; they feed off it and use it as a tool to achieve their aims. They are the ones who constantly stir, who will have no qualms about spreading rumours or secrets about others, and who will fuel the fires through whatever means they can.
But for most other people, constant arguments are harmful to their self-esteem, and non-stop drama is a drain on their energy reserves.
5. They Bend The Truth And Insist You Are Wrong
As we have just discussed, a narcissist is always on the lookout for opportunities to stir up confrontation and they are not afraid to use lies to get their way.
They will take the truth, distort it, and insist that you are wrong when you try to tell it like it is/was. They will make you doubt yourself, your memory, and your beliefs by projecting a false sense of reality onto you.
And if you claim to have proof, they will deny its existence or accuse you of fabricating it to make them appear stupid.

6. They Will Seek To Get Others On Their Side
Before or during an argument, which they themselves have probably initiated, they will endeavour to gain as much support from other people as they can. They will lie and manipulate others into believing their side of the story and then use these people as weapons to harm and defeat their opponents.
This is especially true when someone tries to leave a narcissistic partner behind; the narcissist will do whatever it takes to convince their family and friends, and their partner’s family and friends, into taking their side. Their ultimate goal is to get their partner to change their mind and rekindle the relationship.

7. They Seek Out Individual Triggers
A narcissist is a master at identifying the insecurities and emotional triggers in others. They quickly pick up on these during the early stages of a friendship or relationship and then bring them out to use against an individual when it serves their purpose.
Such behaviour is soul destroying for the other person who will experience a great deal of anguish every time their vulnerability is exposed by the narcissist.

8. They Have Jekyll & Hyde Personalities
A narcissist can be utterly charming and polite when they want to be; indeed, this is often how they lure their victims into friendship and more. They will only act in such a manner, however, when it is required, and the act is quickly dropped when someone has been hooked and reeled in.
They can turn this charisma on and off at will, so when you’ve reached your wits end and threaten to break off all ties with them, the smooth character you initially met comes back.
This switch back and forth between personalities is extremely confusing for the other person and it can blind them to the truth that lay underneath. Not knowing whether you will experience Dr Jekyll or Mr Hyde when engaging with a narcissist makes it difficult to be your real self. This subduing of character can deprive you of your freedom and enjoyment.
So there we have it, 8 of the most common ways in which a narcissistic individual destroys the confidence, self-belief and self-image of other people. Be vigilant for these signs when meeting new people and if you get a whiff of narcissism, run in the opposite direction.

Learn about your Lymph!

Below are common symptoms of a congested lymphatic system (John Douillard):
• Rings get tight on fingers
• Soreness and/or stiffness in the morning
• Feeling tired
• Bloating / Holding on to water
• Itchy skin
• Weight gain and extra belly fat
• Swollen glands
• Low immunity
• Brain fog
• Breast swelling or soreness with each cycle
• Dry skin
• Mild rash or acne
• Hypersensitivity
• Mild headaches
• Elevated histamine and irritation due to common environmental allergens
• Occasional constipation, diarrhea, and/or mucus in the stool

Although there are many reasons why the lymphatic system and lymph nodes may become congested, these can be paired down to three major causes According to John Douillard.

1. Stress has been identified as the cause of about 80% of all chronic health issues. The chemistry of stress is degenerative and lymph congesting.

2. Digestive imbalances may irritate intestinal villi, which is a classic reason for lymph congestion. As the majority of the lymph in the body surrounds the gut (Gut Associated Lymphatic Tissues – GALT), the quality of the villi are critical for proper lymph flow, detoxification, assimilation, and immunity.

3. Iodine deficiency is also a common cause of lymphatic congestion. Iodine helps to mitigate the effects of a toxic environment and supports the lymphatic system at the cellular level.
How to Improve Lymph Health:

1. Exercise: The best way to get the lymphatic system moving is to exercise, and the best type of exercise is rebounding. Rebounding is jumping on a small or large trampoline. Do this for 10-20 minutes a day.

2. Yin Yoga: Yin Yoga requires poses to be held anywhere from 3 to 10 minutes. The change in gravity one experiences in these poses and the differences in pressure help to improve lymphatic flow. Try this video when you have an hour to spare.

3. Walking: It is important to get the body moving and the lungs functioning. Walking is something everyone can do outside or at home. Just take a break and walk. Breathe as deep as possible while walking.

4. Legs up on the Wall: That is right. Laying down with the legs straight up against the wall will improve flow in the legs. It will also encourage the elimination of toxins and aid in going to sleep.

5. Lymphatic Drainage Massage: Physically help the lymph’s to drain with a massage.

6. Standing Desk: Sitting down all day is not good for lymphatic fluid flow. A standing desk makes it easier for everything to flow and allows for more natural movement during the day.

7. Hydrotherapy Showers: Hydrotherapy showers are just a shower where hot and cold water are used alternatively. Towards the end of your shower, just switch the water quickly from hot to cold a couple of times.

Here is a link for more information on hydrotherapy showers.

8. Dry Skin Brushing: Just brushing the skin with a natural bristle brush improves lymphatic flow.

9. Deep Breathing: Deep breathing promotes lymph flow. Your lungs pump your lymphatic fluid.

10. Eat Healthy and Drink Water: Dehydration is a leading cause of lymphatic system congestion. Drink plenty of water to keep it moving. Also, it is important to remove processed foods from one’s diet to keep as many toxins out as possible. Eat warm drinks and soups in the winter and cooling foods in the summer. Also, try eating raw fruit on an empty stomach rather than having any food in your stomach.

Mistletoe is good for us and not just for kissing under...

Kissing under the mistletoe is always a good thing however there are other health benefits of mistletoe that we may be unaware of. Mistletoe can help to treat cancer, prevent diabetes, calm the nervous system, lower blood pressure, promote good sleep, increase immune system activity and reduce snoring. The organic chemicals in mistletoe extract have been used for lots of things from epilepsy to cancer treatment.

Promote Good Sleep:  If you suffer from restlessness when you sleep, why not brew a strong mistletoe tea? This helps because the chemical in mistletoe release something called neurotransmitters that calm you down which comforts the nervous system and allowing for healthy calming sleep.

Cancer Treatment: Research has shown that Mistletoe extract given by injection may reduce cancer cells.

Soothe Respiratory Distress: The human respiratory system is a series of organs which takes in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. Mistletoe can calm things like sore throats, to coughing and bronchial inflammation.

Prevent Diabetes:  Research has shown that it does have the ability to lower blood glucose levels in laboratory tests. This is really new research but extract of mistletoe is showing that it may be assist in lowering glucose levels.

Pain in our bodies...

We often suffer all kinds of pain and think nothing about either ignoring it or self-diagnosing it without really taking the take to figure out exactly what is causing the pain.

How many times have you thought that pain in your back is simply a result of twisting the wrong way in bed the night before? Eventually you realize that pain is still there, two weeks later, but you just brush it off, take two more painkillers and carry on with your day.

At what point do you decided it’s time to investigate further to see what that pain is really all about?
When did we suddenly stop taking care of ourselves, physically, spiritually and emotionally? Why do we think we’re invincible when we’re really not and we do, in fact, actually have to listen to our body’s pain signals?

1. Headaches.
These pains are the body’s way of telling you it needs something or desperately needs you to do something right away. Migraines and other types of headaches could be you need to not stress so much, you need more water, food, less of something or more of something but first and foremost, most headaches are caused by stress. Your body is telling you it’s time to start chilling out and learn to relax more.

2. Neck.
Having a pain in the neck is more than just your neighbour getting on your last nerve. If you are suffering from pain here all the time this is your body alerting you of all the guilt you are carrying around and you need to start letting it go. If you are having a hard time forgiving yourself from something maybe you should take time to use a guided meditation or seek help in order to release this guilt. Guilt serves no purpose. Let it go.

3. Upper back.
This is our need for or the feeling of lack thereof, of emotional support. Either you are feeling unloved or you need to start showing more love to the people in your life. The upper back pain is all about our emotions that have to do with love and being supported. Maybe it’s time you start reaching out to the people you love and strengthen those bonds a bit more. Or maybe you are single and looking for love? Go out more and socialize. You never know who you might meet.

4. Lower back.
This is our core so it resonates with having a solid foundation or feeling grounded or sure of our financial stability. This pain, however, is usually tied to finances or the lack thereof. If you are feeling broke or upset about money or your job, these feelings will show up as a pain in the lower back. Try to sort through your money problems and see if they can be resolved. Maybe try spending less on things you don’t need or giving more so you can keep the flow of abundance going.

5. Shoulder pain.
The term shouldering a problem rings true here. A lot of us who carry burdens, or problems, will carry the brunt of that pain in their shoulders. It’s almost like a monkey on your back kind of feeling. It’s there, it’s heavy and it puts pressure on you but you don’t think you can do anything about it. Well you can, learn to let go of problems that you can’t do anything about. In other words, don’t worry so much about things you have no control over.

6. Hip pain.
If you constantly feel a pain or tightness in your hips it could be a sign that you are stuck in life somewhere or you are really afraid to change or move forward with something. Stepping out of your comfort zone isn’t anything you want to do. It also could be a sign of not wanting to make a major decision about something. Facing fear and being brave is a hard thing to do but when you’ve done it once and see the results, you will want to do it more. Do it once. You’ll see.

7. Knees.
Your knees hurting all the time? Check your ego and see what it’s saying to you. Having pains in your knees is a sign that you like things your way or no way, that you have the best ideas and everyone should listen. You aren’t open to giving away recognition nor do you want anyone else to take credit for anything. Pains in the knees is your unwillingness to bend. Think about that next time your knees hurt and see what situation is going on in your life at the time. Could be it’s time to bend.

Our bodies deserve a lot more credit than we give them. They hold secrets and deep meanings to tons of different stories from our emotions. Pay attention. These are only a few but there are a slew of health related problems that can easily be fixed by checking where we are in our lives.

As your massage therapist I would like you to know…

In my practice, I’ve started to see some common reoccurrences emerge. There are some funny and common concerns however I need you to know all of this is completely normal!

1. It really doesn’t matter that you haven’t shaved.
The truth is we don’t even notice, it’s not important to us that is why we use oil and most men we see don’t shave so ladies don’t panic!

2. Do your stretches – this is the telling off bit!
I will always advise you on the best way to take care of yourself after a treatment and this is based on my knowledge and years of working and training ……do you get my drift yet? I really would love to spend the next 24 hours with you checking out that you have taken some notice of what I have told you but unfortunately I can’t. Our time together is very short, the advice I give you is designed along your treatment plan to help you resolve your pain and dysfunction If you want to get better, you need to do your homework.

3. Your body is beautiful, too.
All bodies are different. I have yet to see one that looks like the airbrushed model in the media. It makes us a little sad when we see those clients who are worried about their bodies and mainly this is because of the pressure of the media. There is only one condition your body should be in, male or female, young or old: healthy.

4.Don’t be shy about your bum.
3 muscles make up your bum. We call your bum muscles the “glutes”. We see it as just that – muscle - we don’t see it as fat, tiny, jiggly or bony. We scan your body clinically and if you have pain in your lower back, legs, hips let us know we may be able to help!

5.We drape to keep your privacy
we are required to take care of your privacy, we undrape the area being treated at any one time, then redrape fully, before undraping any other areas.
6.. Bodily functions are our biggest compliment!
Relaxed bodies react! Your parasympathetic nervous system is kick started when you relax and yes, that means stomach grumbling and growling, snoring, even passing gas are normal. We see this as good think so please relax we love a little grumbling and growling.

7. We want to help you.
We really want you to do your home care we really want you to tell us how you are feeling – remember your session is completely confidential. We worry if you are struggling and want to help make life a little better and make you feel like you have escaped just for a while.

Beauty and wellbeing top 5 tips to help achieve complete wellness

I have honed my insider expertise from more than 30 years in the fashion and beauty industries – as well as having been a counsellor in the past – and believe in the benefits of a full image overhaul that turns self-consciousness into self-confidence.

My experience in the fashion and spa industry has made me realise you can’t treat the body without treating the mind. After the hectic, fun and excitement of summer, winter is here and it’s time to recharge the batteries and treat the whole of your body and mind to some self-care. At Simply Stylish, I take a holistic approach to wellness ensuring I take into account your physical and emotional state.

Simply Stylish top five tips to achieve complete wellness

Hydration and nutrition – you will achieve better health from regular exercise combined with plenty of healthy fluids that help every system in your body perform more efficiently. Never underestimate the importance of eating at the right times and taking the effort and time to make wise nutritional choice; the body needs fuel so energy levels stay stable helping us maintain a state of equilibrium.
Listen to your body – if you have a slight injury, pain or the onset of any virus or illness it’s your body’s way of telling you you’re doing too much and not looking after yourself. Rest, relax in a way you know works for you - Simply Stylish would always suggest taking time to meditate or indulge in yoga as they are tip top ways to listen to your body.

Learn something new – this is always guaranteed to give your self-confidence and self-esteem a boost. Take a course you have always put on the back burner, learn a new skill, or get passionate about something you loved doing as child. You never know where new ventures can lead you - learning is exciting and makes you feel good about yourself.

Enjoy yourself - your health and wellbeing will benefit if you are having fun and are happy. Make sure you do something every day that makes you smile. This could be as simple as reading a page of a good book or taking a walk in the autumn leaves.

Rejuvenate yourself - body exfoliation and massage are my top two treatments to prepare your body for the winter months. Exfoliation is for the elimination of any toxins you may have and prepares the skin for the transition from the warmer to the cooler months ahead. Massage stimulates the lymphatic system to help with the elimination of toxins which in turn will leave you feeling relaxed and more energised. Massage calms the mind and nervous system. I use oils from Germaine De Capuccini known for their purity and potency and massage will relieve da- to-day stress built up in your muscles that can cause tightness and pain. You will experience a sense of relaxation as your whole body is worked on to ease away tension caused by modern day living.

Reiki energy will cleanse and revitalize our subtle energies and can help us to find inner balance between the different levels of our consciousness. Reiki can help us to move forward during times of change and can help us to engage positively with challenges and issues that affect our mental, emotional and physical health.

Reiki treatments
A Reiki treatment should be a wonderfully relaxing, peaceful and serene experience for both the client and the healer. The client will remain clothed and normally lie on a treatment couch while the healer places their hands on or over the body, especially over the major chakras...

A Reiki treatment will normally last for an hour or so and the client may experience feelings or effects of the Reiki healing energy. Some people feel some heat, tingling or nothing at all but whatever the sensation you can be sure that Reiki healing is doing what is needed.

I highly recommend a regular Reiki treatment to maintain and improve health and I still find my daily Reiki self-treatment an important part of my health regime.

Benefits of being by the sea.

The sea inspires creative thinking, reduces anxiety and worry and also promotes compassionate thinking. The sound of the ocean is very relaxing. Being beside the sea encourages physical activity leading to a healthier lifestyle. There is no better smell of the fresh sea air.

Taking deep breaths beside the sea is great for you,the salty sea air does wonders for the respiratory system and helps with asthma, bronchitis, sinus pressure and coughing.

By the sea, the air is full of negative ions which are full of oxygen. We need negative ions to reduce the positive ions (which are not good for us) in our body and whats more the reflection of the sun off the sand and sea is a great way to dose up on the amazing vitamin D. Vitamin D reduces the risk of cancer and enhances bone health.

There is no greater healer than salty sea water. It improves the immune system, hydrates skin and boosts the circulation. Salt water is rich in magnesium so has been show to relax muscles and helps you sleep better.

Our Universal Contour Wrap is packed with sea clay and minerals to soothe, hydrate, tighten and tone your skin whilst helping detox the system. Hurrah for the sea!

EXFOLIATE TO RENEW AND SMOOTH YOUR SKIN...

Exfoliating is perhaps one of the most important things that you can do for your skin. Dead skin cells can give the appearance of devitalised, tired skin which is the last thing you want. Exfoliating removes dull, dead skin and encourages fresh new cells to the surface which in turn aids blemished skin, blocked pores, dry skin and uneven pigmentation. It is very beneficial for the skin, helping it to look younger, fresher and more vibrant and increases the skin’s receptiveness to other products. We recommend exfoliating once to twice a week, but no more, as this could make your skin tight, red and uncomfortable..

Simply Stylish offer a 2 exfoliation treatment using the high quality product from Germaine De Capuccini, our exfoliators recondition, protects and soothes the skin. Treatment time 25 minutes. Treatment cost £27.00.

For continued bright, glowing skin, Simply Stylish recommend exfoliating your body once a week at home with the Exfoliating Body Scrub, then daily, indulge yourself by using our massage soap which is a luxurious soap infused with mint and white jasmine and made with poppy seeds to exfoliate and stimulate micro – circulation.

“INCH LOSS, THE EASY WAY”...

There has been lots of hype around Universal Contour Wrap, so here is the information on what all the fuss is about. Unlike other wraps, the Universal Contour Wrap does not work based on water loss, it works by reducing the toxins in the body, improving circulation and lymphatic drainage for an all over detox.

Benefits:
• Scientifically proven
• Stays off for 30 days
• Wrapping technique helps to lift and reshape
• Reduces appearance of cellulite
• Guaranteed loss of six inches (minimum)
• Clay stays in pores to keep working for 3-4 days after treatment

What’s not to like?! The main question I guess you have is will it stand up to its promise?

If you have not experienced a wrap treatment before you may not be entirely sure what to expect, firstly you will be asked to remove your clothes and put on some special knickers. This will be very professional and you will not feel uncomfortable at all. You will then be measured in 19 different places and the results will be recorded on a sheet.

I will then wrapped you from the feet upwards in hot, damp elastic bandages that had been soaked in clay. The hot clay will be spread onto any problem areas – such as thighs – for extra ‘oomph’ and then wrapped tightly all the way up to my neck. Each leg and arm will be wrapped independently. It sounds odd – and it will be – just a little – but it will also a pleasant feeling being wrapped tightly and snugly and it feels as if you are in a cocoon. I then help you into a silver top and trousers to keep the wraps at optimum temperature and then you lay on the couch whilst the clay and wraps work their magic. Whilst wrapped and suited up, the minerals from the clay absorb deep into the pores to start the detoxifying process.

An hour later, I will unwrap you. You pat yourself dry (strictly no rubbing) and I then measure you in the same 19 places again. I will then calculate your inch loss and that can be anywhere between the guaranteed 6 inches up to results as impressive as 24 inches.

To get the optimum results from the treatment then steer clear of coffee, alcohol, fatty foods, sugar and salt to keep it off and to drink plenty of water to flush out all of the impurities. There is a comprehensive aftercare to keep you on track and help you make the most of the inch loss.

Skin will feel instantly tighter and had a noticeably smoother appearance (it especially improves the look of the orange peel), Area can feel lifted and you will notice a difference when putting back on your clothes. Now is an ideal time to have a course of treatments, too. Just in time for autumn and the countdown to the little black dress season! This treatment is recommended to anyone looking to tone up, lose a few inches or kick start a weight loss regime. I am sure you will be impressed!
Universal Contour Body Wrap – 2 hours - £65.
A course of 3 is recommended and attracts a 20% discount

Back
Brush from the base of the back towards the neck and hairline..

Reiki healing, By Mark Stallabrass

Reiki is a gentle yet powerful way of healing with the hands or at a distance. Reiki is the life force energy, present in all living things which is channeled to give holistic healing to mind, body and spirit, bringing balance and well-being. It is like an intelligent, divine healing energy that flows to where it is needed.

Reiki healing can be channeled by anyone who has been attuned to the Reiki energies and has received the training. The Reiki healing energies are channeled through the healer to the client to bring harmony and peace to all aspects of our being.
Reiki is safe for babies, infants, adults and the elderly, in pregnancy, in illness and for those who wish to maintain their health and well-being. Reiki energy will cleanse and revitalize our subtle energies and can help us to find inner balance between the different levels of our consciousness. Reiki can help us to move forward during times of change and can help us to engage positively with challenges and issues that affect our mental, emotional and physical health.

You can find out more about Reiki healing here...

When you think it doesn’t get any better than that – add on the Indian Head Massage – which will absolutely meet the needs of any stress and tension you are holding on to.
